Hopefully the weather will be nice on Saturday b/c my Dad is paying me to do his White Suburban which hasn't been waxed since God knows when. I purchased some ColorX today and terry cloth applicators to clean the paint. Now is ColorX also a wax or should I follow it up with some #26, I dont feel like using NXT b/c I heard that it works best on darker cars. Also, if i'm applying the colorx or #26 and some water gets on the pad b/c it dripped out of a crevice (I HATE THAT) do I have to stop and dry it off or can i just keep applying the product? I think the worst part will be the roof on his truck, YIKES! Any suggestions that anyone has will be appreciated. THanks.

    Hi sonicblue02,

ColorX is a stand alone product. It does not need another product applied over it. You can if you want to, but it does contain both carnauba and polymers for protection. The Ford Bronco II that I did in the Extreme Makeover forum is parked next door and it still looks great.

It’s been exactly one month today since I wiped the single application off the finish. I believe it’s a good Idea to apply two thin coats of any wax because it insures thorough and even application. But a Suburban is quite large and will take you quite a while to apply two coats of wax to. Especially the first coat because with the first coat you have to use a lot more elbow grease to accentuate the cleaning ability of ColorX. The second coat would be easier because the paint already be clean, that is if you do a good job with the first coat.

Because the Suburban is quite large, you might consider just taking your time and do a really good job of thoroughly apply one coat. After you remove all the wax, stand back and inspect. If it looks good, and time is of the essence, you could always wax it again down the road.

As far as NXT only being good for medium to dark colors. That’s doesn’t sound right to me. NXT Tech Wax does in fact darken paint as well as make it very clear. But it also adds a lot of gloss. Gloss is a good characteristic for any color finish.

But that’s for you to decide. Good luck and if you can post some before and after pictures.

      NXT on Silver

I have both a marroon coloured vehicle and a silver unit. I initially thought the NXT was really something on the dark red unit and the silver was not as spectacular a difference with NXT. I made these assumptions right after doing the vehicles.
Upon reinspecting the Silver paint a couple of days after I did it I was really pleased with how glossy, wet-looking and deep the NXT finish was. Possibly it was the lighting that was different or maybe the properties of the wax had changed from that inspection right after applying the wax.
Needless to say I am pleased with the NXT on silver now.
