  • Priming pad for NXT w/Booster?

I know that using water or a QD is a no no for priming a pad when you're applying NXT, but what about misting the pad with the Booster Wax? Are the formulas close enough that using the Booster to dampen the pad won't adversely affect the NXT?

I'm asking because it seems that it takes a lot of NXT to get the pad "primed" and it seems like a waste. Putting a spritz of Booster on seems to make the NXT spread a lot better and thinner.

So is this a good idea?

      Hi Don,

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I try to take Sunday off and spend time recharging my batteries so to speak....

Saturdays are very long days with the clinics and all and everyone needs a break once in a while.

I have never asked about the idea/question you have brought up before, I have also never tried it. I'll ask the question and get back to you.

What is wrong with priming the pad with QD? I always give a squirt of QD or water on my pads before I apply any product. One thing I would like to know with NXT is what do I do about my PC pads? I can soak them for a day and the NXT just does not want to come out of the pad. I end up soaking/ringing/soaking for about 5-10 minutes but even after that the pad seems sticky. Is this alright to use again?
        Thank you,

Typically, you don't want to introduce water or any liquid chemical into a wax formula because you can potentially alter the performance of the product. It's okay with compounds, paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes and pure polishes, but not with waxes.

As to your second question, the reason you have a hard time removing NXT Tech Wax from anything is because it's water and detergent resistant.

It's funny, some people complain that the product doesn't last long or protect well, but I've actually seen these same people complaint that they can't wash the product out of their wax pad.

At this time, I don't know of an easy way to remove the NXT Tech Wax from your applicator pads and buffing pads, I have the same problem also. If we change the formula to wash out of the pads easily, that will mean it will wash off the car easily, which will defeat the purpose.

Thank you for the info I'll stop using that with wax. I guess the thought of a dry pad makes me think i'm going to induce swirls.

                Hey Don,

Until Mike gets back to you (which I am sure will be very soon! ), the way I prime my pads for NXT Tech Wax is to put a fairly heavy "X" of product on the pad. I then work it in by hand into the pad. That is usually enough to prime the pad.

                Take care,
                Tim

OK, but since I have the LC pads at the moment, part of the "X" would fall through the hole in the center of the pad & onto the backing plate...So I guess I'll just have to make a few extra "O's" around the pad instead

                    Hi Don,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this, I discussed this with Mike Pennington and it's perfectly okay to mist a little NXT Spray Wax onto a foam pad to moisturize the pad before applying NXT Tech Wax.

Note: If you apply too much of the NXT Spray Wax onto your foam pad, it will sling off the pad when you turn the polisher on and spray little dots of wax all over surrounding areas.
