  • The protective capabilities of ColorX

I just bought ColorX this week after reading a lot of positive reviews on it.
While a lot of people praise it's paint cleaning abilities, there's not much info on the "wax" aspect of it. From what I've read on many forums, most people who use ColorX top it off with a wax like NXT Tech.

How come few people use it as a stand alone wax?
How does the protection/durability of ColorX fare against other waxes?

Well, most folks on here arent average Joes, so we tend to do a little more and try to do the recomended two coats of wax. Most average Joe's would do a cleaner/wax once or twice a year and be done with it.

So one coat of a cleaner/wax and one coat of a regular wax would take care of that recomendation for us more obsessive folk.

As far as durability, its going to be more like DC3, Cleaner/Wax, those sort of things. It doesnt have the hydrophobic polymers like the Nxt 2.0 does, and any other new improvements that were made.

Re: The protective capabilities of ColorX

I've used ColorX as a cleaner wax on my gf's Corolla, and it's brought it back from that "blah" dulled look to actually look like it's got some shine to it. I'm glad it does, because it saves me time on having to do a cleaner, then put a good coat of wax on it. She's already got paint damage due to a minor accident, and doesn't want it to look show car perfect, just "cleaner than it was before."

It's not a PERFECT method of an all in one cleaner/wax (And sorry, Meg's, but there's just nothing you've made so far that does the job yet that I've found), but it works pretty good for something that you can readily find at most auto parts stores. I like it, and it's great for a "twice a year" good cleaning and waxing on her daily driver.

One coat of ColorX on my '98 Cavalier (about 4x a year) is perfect enough for me after washing (two bucket method) drying and claying. Any more cleaning and I'm getting a DA.

How safe is it to use every month or two as a wax if it contains diminishing abrasives?

I sure hope it's safe, as I've recommended to one of my sons to wax his car with ColorX every six weeks. His car is a daily driver and is exposed 24/7 to the sun and salt air of Corpus Christi.

He washed, clayed, and ColorXed his car last week. He was amazed with the result. I'm trying to persuade him to top it with NXT. One step at a time...

              Cheers,
              Al

                Completely safe.

Feels some between your fingers and you'll notice it feels smooth and creamy, not gritty or abrasive.

Also, you won't need to be applying it as "passionately" if you are using it often.

                    ColorX

ColorX is a strong cleaner/polish/wax, it uses both chemical cleaners and diminishing abrasives to safely remove light swirls, scratches and other paint defects. The polishing oils will restore clarity and richness of color and a proprietary blend of Meguiar's polymer technology with Carnauba Wax will lock in the shine and protect the finish.

It's very versatile in that it can be used to restore a neglected finish or to maintain a finish still in great shape simply by changing the way you apply it.

For neglected finishes use the product very wet, (plenty of product on the surface), and put some passion behind the pad when working by hand or use Meguiar's W-8006 Foam Polishing Pad on a DA Polisher on the 5.0 Speed Setting.

For finishes in good to excellent condition simply apply gently but thoroughly over the surface by hand or with either a foam polishing or finishing pad on the 3.0 to 4.0 Speed Setting on a DA Polisher.

Always allow a Meguiar's wax to completely dry before removing, cleaner/waxes tend to dry fairly fast so it won't take long to dry. After it dries wipe the dried residue off the paint using a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth.

                      Hi Mike

I wash the car every week or so, and wax and clay as needed. However, there are swirls (from previous owner of course ) that aren't visible unless viewing from a specific angle and with direct sunshine. What would you consider the condition of the paint to be?

                        The condition sounds fine.

If you want to tackle removing the swirls or not is up to you?

                          Good to Excellent

Most daily drivers have swirls, it's a drawback of clear coats specifically but all paints in general. You can have light swirls and the condition of the paint can still be in Good to Excellent condition.

Removing all swirls and then maintaining a swirl free finish on a daily driver is a lot of work and pretty hard to do if you can't also keep the car in a garage when not in use.

I got my hands on colorx and gave it a whirl, taped off part of my bonet and then glossed up one part with a 2-3 coats of colorx and then removed the taped off part to compare. it had a deeper gloss i noticed so i was happy with it i topped it off with a #21 sealant. people did comment how my car looked darker
my car is a cypress green colour anyway
