  • NXT finish fading away?

So I finished waxing my motorcycle (plastics with base color and clearcoat) and it looks great. One thing I have noticed is that when I was done waxing, I could streak my finger across the paint and it would feel like soap; very smooth.

Now three days later, WITHOUT riding it and without taking it outside (it sits inside my house), the paint now has a little drag on it when I wash my hands and glide my hand across the paint.

What do you think is happening? Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

BTW, I washed it with dawn (dish detergent), then used rubbing compound to take some fine scratches out, then meguiars professional show car polish, then NXT wax.

Maybe add a second coat? Are you thinking it should be a lot slicker than it is?

That's what we usually teach people not to do, don't wash with a detergent and most traditional compounds will scratch paint, you must have something that works better?

      Thanks for the reply.

I did apply two coats of wax...one coat followed by another coat about 8 hrs after the first coat was removed.

What I am saying is the slickness of the paint a couple days after the removal of the second coat of wax is not like it is a couple of hours after you remove the wax. When you remove the haze of wax, the finish is very slick. Now, a couple days later, the finish is starting to remind me of how paint is when there is no wax on it...granted it is not like that now, but I am afraid it will get like that, even without taking the bike outside. It makes me feel like the wax is degrading or something, even with no atmospheric contaminants or dirt or anything on the paint.

Also, I used dawn because I wanted all of the wax stripped off. I normally dont use dawn unless I want to redo my paint care sequence.

A good alternative to Dawn thats safe and stuff is Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Clear. Used it a couple times and it worked as well as Dawn did without damaging anything. Either that or a couple sprites of P21S TAW into your favorite soap+water bucket works too. I just find TAW takes a bit longer than CG's product

I do not know if you have applied one of Meguiars Quik Detailers, but I think maybe it just needs a little quick detailing.

Good idea right above this post.

Get Ultimate Quick Detailer, with a couple towels, wipe down the bike with UQD. It could turn out better than after it was just waxed!

I have to say though, just me, I'm not the biggest fan of how NXT makes the paint feel. I know most say it's #1 in that category, but that is the one area I haven't ever been too sure about.

Please, no one hate me for saying that, just on my car something like Gold Class or #26 I like the way it feels even more.

aares, you may see better results if you don't put a glaze between paint and NXT.

Keep in mind that a surface can feel different depending on how much moisture your hand has and is in the air. I wouldn't worry about it. Your bike is well protected.

I don't subscribe to having to use a QD to restore the finish on a LSP that may be somehow lacking. A QD isn't a LSP solution; it's an adjunct.

I agree with you 100% on this. I tried NXT and NXT 2.0 and wasn't inpressed. I actually gave the bottle away. I also agree with you on giving UQD a try. I'm sure the results will be fanstatis since the paint has already been "preped". I also must agree with you on #26.

Part of my thinking was that maybe the bike was just a little dusty, so it felt less slick, and a QD would help with that.

                    Re: NXT finish fading away?

Thanks for the replies! I picked up some UQD today and I will try it tomorrow to see what happens. I do think the bike was a little dusty, so that could be the cause.

Is there a good way to tell if your wax is still protecting, other than the wipe method?

                      Hi,
Could the difference in that "slick" feeling be because when you just get done waxing your car that you have some wax on your hands still?.. Thus causing your fingers to feel they are gliding over the paint a bit easier compared to the next couple of days where you do not have any residual wax on your hands?.... just a thought....

Im sure this could happen, but what I was talking about occurs even when I washed my hands.

You know what? I dont really even care anymore...as long as the wax is still on the paint and protecting the paint somewhat, I am happy.

UPDATE: I applied a third coat of wax, let it dry like 8 hrs because I didnt have the time. As of today, it still is slick, so maybe I just needed another coat. Also, I bought UQD, and like it so far...I just dont know what the difference between UQD and QD is. Thanks again for your replies!

NXT doesn't feel very slick after applying it? It always does for me. Did you clay the paint before wax?
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Immediately after applying and removing the wax, it is very slick. I think my problem was that the fairing in question, was the one fairing I did not remove to wash/polish/wax, and another coat of wax solved this issue so far.

No, I did not clay the paint before hand...I clayed the paint about two months ago, and I have only ridden about two or three times since then.
