I buffed the snot out of the car with #9 on a finishing pad @6. I wasn't looking for any real heavy-duty cleaning, I just wanted a fresh surface to work with. After that, I applied the 2.0 by hand with a foam applicator. What I noticed was that there was still some uneven deepening of the paint on the hood, but not nearly like it was when I applied the 2.0 with the PC plus it buffed off/faded away much easier and faster than before. Everything seemed to turn out great...fast forward a few hours and I catch a glimpse of the quarter panel at an angle and I see smears and uneven coloring... 
Fortunately, a second pass with a clean microfiber leveled out the coloring and by tomorrow I'm sure it will all be even.
