I ran into a guy today that seemed to be a expert on meguiars wax. He said that to make NXT more durable, put on your whole car and let it sit for a extra 20 to 30 minutes. He didnt know why it works, he says that if you wipe it off to soon it will only last 5 to 6 weeks. If you let it set you can get several months out of it. I use too put wax on a couple sections and then wipe it off. What is the opinion of other people here. Maybe all sealants need to sit awhile

Re: Longer lasting NXT
Well he might be quite true. If u got watch Barry Meguiar's 3 part clinic vids, he did mentioned that the longer u let their wax on the paint to dry it would let the polymers work better. Something like that, if I get his meaning correctly.... My friend's neighour let the wax dry over night and wipe off it the morning. Hehe.
I normally start wiping off the 1st panel I waxed, when I just finish the whole car. I am from Malaysia and our climate here is quite hot so the waxes dry faster. This is what I think though.

Re: Longer lasting NXT
Hmmmmm. Interesting theory. When my dad puts NXT on the whole car and lets it dry for awhile. And it lasts much longer on his Grand Prix than it does on my GTO.
Due to cooler temperatures, I let some #21 sit on my car for about 6 hours before removing it. No wonder it lasts so long!!!
There may be something to that theory. The longer you let the NXT sit, the more likely it is you gave the polymers time to "set up."

Re: Longer lasting NXT
That is interesting... It would be interesting to hear from Meguiars on this.
The way I understand it apply NXT, let haze and remove 20 min or so... then let sit for 12-24 hours for the polymers to 'set-up' prior to a wash or a detialer or a second coat of wax. Maybe some confusion with that?Brandon

Re: Longer lasting NXT
I doubt Meguiars, or any LSP manufacturer, is going to go into so much detail with its instructions. If they were to do that, than the average consumer might view it as being too complicated to use and shy away from it. Note they don't even recommend applying a second coat. The theory is K-I-S-S.
You can get results without the second coat, or without the longer wait time before buffing off the haze. Those are options, so they leave them out of the instructions.

Re: Longer lasting NXT
So is the NXT advertised as a 12 month, 6month, or 3 month wax??
All I know at this time is on my 1993 Black Firebird Formual, it is the best, high definition, deep gloss and reflective finish I have ever seen bar none.... It is unbelievable...I just can't understand how they get the finish.
But, I have no idea how long it will last.
However I wax my Formula about once a month!!

Re: Longer lasting NXT
Originally posted by Bence View PostNono, just apply and let it sit without removing. I actually noticed the same effect with other products. "Officially" when the applied layer swipes clean, the product is ready to be wiped off and there is no further benefit from leaving it on the surface. However, IME when you leave a product on the car overnight it can help to extend the durability.Brandon

Re: Longer lasting NXT
Technically, it doesn't matter if it is half an hour or overnight. It is just a dried layer of wax. Chemically it had done its job, and it is waiting for removal. Mike will say the same. BTW half an hour drying is in the normal timeframe; there's nothing abnormal in it.
Yet still, something happens under that layer...

Re: Longer lasting NXT
Well I thought I would try the over night experiment.
I waxed one whole side of the Black ML-320 4X4 before I went to bed.
This morning it wiped off very easy, just a white dust, no issues.
It's beautiful, very deep, rich, reflective finish.
I suspect the secret is to make sure it is completely dry and that probably depends on the humidity and temp. I'm in Ohio but the garage is 60 degrees.
I think a couple of hours of drying is sufficient.
Anyway, I'm impressed, this so easy to use the the finished result is absoluetly great.
It's my new wax !

It is interesting however that their is no rush to wipe it off.
Anyway, It's fun to see the resulting finish.
I must be a bored car crazy guy in this cold rainy Northern Ohio weather.
