  • Where'd all the Tech Protect go?

I went to Wal-Mart, Pep Boys, Kragen and AutoZone, and I noticed that neither of them had Tech Protect in stock. Are they simply out of stock or is there some sort of recall on them? It's very unusual for so many stores not to have this product on their shelves.

The "Tech Protect" is now known as "Cockpit shine".
I think that they changed the name because it was confusing some people with the Tech Wax.

Last time I ordored Tech Protect directly from Megs, I got Cockpit Shine.

Nope. Didn't see any Cockpit Shine, either. And it's still called Tech Protect over here. The only protectants I saw were Quick Interior Detailer and Natural Shine.

I was at my Local AutoZone here at 9:30 PM tonight. They had Tech Protect in stock. About 6-8 bottles on the shelf I guess.

I know I have seen it somewhere locally... I thought WalMart had it, hummmm... do you have a Target, might try there!?!? I have always found it easy to find locally.

Not sure why Meguiars hasn't changed the name on their web site maybe when they change over to the new packaging the site will change!?!?

Either way this is what I have seen locally.

There is obviously a large stockpile under the Tech Protect name somewhere. I keep seeing Tech Protect in my area. I have seen Cockpit Shine at Target though.

Meg's probably want's to thin out the stockpile before officially switching over to Cockpit Shine so that if they send Tech Protect to someone they won't get a call saying "this isn"t what I ordered."

Just a guess on my part of course.

The Targets in my area didn't have it in stock (I'm not even sure if they stock them at all). Right now, they're the only ones that have Tech Wax in the new packaging.

I just place an order for tech protect last week and I recieved it yesterday. The bottle is still called tech protect. Maybe it'll change with the new packaging?

Hehe, this is funny. From what my source has explained to me, the "Cockpit Shine" is the *old* version of the product. If you guys get the chance, scoop up a bottle for your collections.

It *is* possible that they unearthed an old box of the Cockpit Shine lables and used them by accident... but I'm pretty sure you guys are just coming across some old stock somewhere. 8-)

It was posted sometime ago... i think it was about some confusion. To me "Cockpit Shine" is a little better name as its not the best product to use on the exterior.

                      EDIT:
Here is an old post... read down a little Mike Phillips talks about the name change: New Name For Tech Protectant?

Okie, we'll get to the bottom of this. On Monday, I'm going to ask the Product Manager for interior products what the scoop is.

My comments came from a discussion with one of my bosses who's been around since before the NXT line launched 8-).

I'm also going to ask Manufacturing about the labels.

What's your take on this, Mike?

OK.... this is from Product Marketing....

"originally the product was called tech protectant. for a period of about 2 weeks it was renamed cockpit shine, but then changed again to tech protect, which is the current name. there are no plans to return to cockpit shine."

Hopefully this will put the debate to bed once and for all. 8-)

For those with "Cockpit Shine"... it certainly seems to be a rare addition to your collection. 8-)

I like Tech Protect. The name doesn't limit to interior use, in my little at least.
