general question on nxt

i just purchase the nxt wax, i was wondering do i have to do any surface prep before i apply this wax?
like the meguiar's phase one in the maroon bottle, or can i apply the nxt wax directly after i wash my car?

Hey,

Well that depends on your finish. If the finish has noticeable swirls, I would pre-clean the finish with something like #9 Swirl Remover. However, if your paint is in excellent condition, then go ahead and apply it right after thoroughly washing and the drying the car.

As Tim said as I was typing this up, it depends on the surface you are starting with and what condition it is in.

NXT is for surfaces in good to excellent condition. Is the surface clean, as in no surface contamination on or in the paint?

Meguiar’s recommends following the The 5-step Paint Care Cycle:

• Wash
• Clean
• Polish
• Protect
• Maintain

Each of the 5 steps are on an as needed basis.

Well, you need to determine the condition of your paint. Does it feel rough to the touch? Does it look swirly? Does it look faded or chalky or low in gloss? Or does it look really glossy and bright? Anything that you find lacking in the paint, you should address before you wax it. Applying a wax to paint in poor condition (except a cleaner/wax) will not correct the poor condition. Your paint should be looking pretty sweet already (minus things like chips, dents, etc that can't be repaired without adding paint).

As far as application, just put the wax on in whatever way you feel is easiest, spreads it the best, gets the best coverage, etc. Often circular motions are easier to make sure you cover everything, but some people prefer more linear motions. I usually apply waxes in a linear fashion, but to each his/her own. As long as you are getting complete coverage and not using too much product, then however you do it is cool.

and there is a good video on their site. It's the one in the car care clinic section called "automotive appearance care". It was a bit ago that I watched it, but I'm pretty sure they go over surface evaluation in it. It's a good video to watch anyway.
