  • Using #26 on Sealant

Hi I think the High Tech Yellow is #26....but first I will say I love megs, huge fan for over 12 years... I have just learned about blackfire and also love it, but I am a big fan of Carnuabas. What kind of durability could I expect of #26 on top of a Blackfire Sealant? And on another I would be using the #26 alone.

Whether you apply M26 all by itself or on top of another product the resulting life expectancy of M26 won't change. For the record, sealants such as BFWD, Ultimate Wax, NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and similar will last longer than M26 and other carnauba waxes. People who use both a synthetic sealant and a carnauba generally do by laying down the synthetic first and then topping with the carnauba, as you described. This is done primarily because they want the lasting protection of the synthetic but more of the carnauba look. It isn't really necessary to use both, but there's no harm in doing so either. But again, it won't impact the longevity of the carnauba, which was applied last.

A Carnauba look gives off a warm even glow with depth and a synthetic gives a sharp crisp plasticky look.

It is very common for people to describe carnauba waxes as giving a warmer, richer look than synthetics do. A common complaint, for lack of a better word, about the look of synthetics is that they make the paint look like it's wrapped in plastic. Keep in mind that these are common personal descriptions of the way different individuals describe these two types of products. Neither is right or wrong, and not everyone perceives these two groups this way. It's also why some people will say that carnauba waxes are best on dark colors; the warm, rich look of carnauba compliments the deep look that blacks, reds, and other dark colors are capable of showing. Conversely, since light colors generally can't look as deep as dark colors do, a synthetic can give them a very bright and crisp shine that carnauba can't. But since all of this is incredibly subjective and personal, you should continue to select the wax or sealant that you like, for whatever reason, and use it regularly.

It's because of the subjectivity and personal preference that we always sort of smile when someone asks "what's the best wax for _________ color car?". There is no "best" in this regard, but there are plenty of "favorites".
