  • Rotary + 151 PRC = holograms! Ugh!

Gave my daily driver a pass yesterday with the 151 and rotary on Meg yellow polishing pad and it looked fabulous with partial sun, woke up today to a full sun and holograms!!! Guess I'll be hitting it again with the DA and 205 in a bit!
I don't know why I figured it would finish clean there is just something about the force of a rotary on soft paint that just didn't jive
anyone finish (LSP) with a rotary?
I've got an older model rotary that has 6 settings and had it on the middle with hardly any pressure ....

Soft paint and a rotary can easily combine to leave holograms, regardless what liquid is used in the mix.

You mentioned running the buffer at the middle speed - any idea what that speed might be? On a Makita or DeWalt you'll be spinning pretty darn fast if set in the middle, certainly much faster than you want for final finish work. Now, combine that speed with maybe a bit more arm speed than you really should use (how quickly the tool is moving across the paint) and whether or not the pad was totally flat to the paint, and the risk of holograms rises quickly. Try switching to a finishing pad and dropping the speed waaaay down - on a Makita or DeWalt that would mean running at or near the slowest speed available - and then moving very slowly across the paint with the pad as flat as possible.

But if the car has really soft/delicate paint, then this is going to be a fun learning experience no matter what you use!

Kind of a related subject using D151, old thread... starts at post #4: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28806
