  • kinda confused about #81 and #7

hey guys i have never polished my car but i have always waxed it wit #26 ever since i bought it new... so i decided to finally give it a polish... but i am a bit confused.... i did some searching on #81 and #7 and it seems like they are same kinda of polish.... but i thought #81 was a polish to remove light scratches and #7 was just a glaze.... i was planning to use these 2 together.... so should i just use one or the other??? and what kinda pad should i use to apply and how do i apply it??? btw i will be doing it by hand... also should i use #26 wax or NXT???? thnkz

IMO, I would use a product like #80, it is a little more aggressive, but still works great by hand. For a one-step type of job, you should look into #80 topped with your #26.

        Hey,

        Just to clarify...

Both Meguiar's #81 Hand Polish and #7 Show Car Glaze are pure polishes. They will not remove scratches or otherwise. They are designed to beautify the finish by adding rich TS oils etc...

The #81 was designed, like the rest of the 80 series, with BC/CC is mind. Where as #7 was designed many years ago when Single Stage paint was the norm. However, both work really well on today's modern finishes with the edge in removal going to the #81.

I prefer to apply the product to one panel at a time, then remove. There is no need to leave the product on the surface as it does not dry but rather "skins" over. Use a quality MF towel for removal.

If you have light swirls, I suggest either #9 Swirl Remover (light swirls) or #80 Speed Glaze (a little deeper swirls). On the deeper scratches, I would suggest ScratchX.

        I hope this helps!

Just jumping in here... I use #81 all the time and top with NXT works great and looks great! Its a very easy polish to use and I feel shines up the best out of #7 or Deep Crystal Polish on a BC/CC.

Not a problem! Meguiar's products are designed to work as a system. I too have always applied the #81 (or #3, #7) and topped with a Meguiar's sealant/wax without a problem!

                My two cents...

Two passes of #82, followed by #7 and two coats of NXT Tech Wax.

Somewhere between 16-20 hours. I went over the whole car twice with #82, as I did not go slow enough, or allow the product to completely breakdown the first time around.

The taping took a little time, as did washing it twice, then claying.

I did a more complete write-up in another post. Scroll down till you find the same pics of my Volvo.

The answer depends on whether or not the surface is clean, you don't want to apply any product, such as a polish or wax onto the paint if it's dirty or dusty. So depending on where you leave the car overnight will determine whether you should wash, quick detail, or do nothing before applying your next product.

If you park it outside over night, it would be a good idea to go over the finish with a quick detailer and a microfiber polishing cloth or a cotton towel to insure the finish is clean before applying any wax. You shouldn't need to wash it again.

hey i have a question..... how long do you have to wait for the polish to settle before applying wax??? cuz right after i buff off #81 i applied #26 ... the area where i use #81 the wax was like hard to apply like it wouldnt stick on.... but yeah since my car is silver i did not see a big difference, but it did remove some really light scratch... after just testing on the hood i really want a PC now....
