  • M105–rotary only??

I'm a newbie to the detailing world, but trying hard, and being patient over the last few months. I'm using a Cyclo along with M83 and M80. Both with pretty nice results. My question is regarding M105 as I've heard very good things about the product. I'm looking for something with more cut than the M83, but I've read here somewhere that the M105 is geared more to the rotary, which I'm not using–yet. I'd like to know what equivalent, or close to anyway, out of the pro line might be recommended, more fitting the dual action of the Cyclo for more serious correction.

Well, with M105 it is for rotary use and hand application as well. Im assuming that what you are using is either a DA or an orbital im not sure. From what i understand when Megs released the M105 it was for those two application methods because when they test a product they want to have lot of good results before they say it can be used in a certain way. There have been some people that have used M105 with a DA and have had great results and others havent. If you really want to try M105 you can but, if your new to this then I would say do some reading and what are your goals? What are you trying to accomplish? Scratch removal, heavy oxidation, cleaning a daily driver? Let us know so we can help you?

I've used M105 w/ my G110 3 times w/ great success. This is now my go-to product for cleaning and polishing (varies by pad type, pressure, etc). D151 is my product of choice for shinning up daily drivers. I have found that it has more cut than #83 and it leaves a nice finish (just as advertised).

Here's a thread worth reading on the subject... M105 with a DA. Why not?

          Carlsson,

I have heard some fantastic things about this great product, however I'd recommend doing some more research into what it does and how it performs to make sure it is what you need. From a financial standpoint, you are looking at 90$ a gallon!
Here is a thread which Mike P and also Jason Rose contributed to that has really cleared up some things in my mind.

This is a VERY abrasive compound and should be used last and not first. As Megs always teaches, start with the least aggressive product and go from there. Keep in mind that this is not an all-in-one product! Jason makes that very clear in the linked post above. I quote him:

M105 Ultra-Cut Compound is...well, a compound. It is intended to go after sanding marks and severe defects. It is part of a two-liquid, two-step process...the second step being a Meguiar's polish that is positioned for follow up after a compound.
          Good luck!

            Re: M105–rotary only??

Thanks for the replies all. It seems there are quite a few different opinions on this product and its usage. I've seen everything from "ready for LSP" after M105, to whoa, "much too aggressive", "rotary only", or "great with the PC", etc.

That's the way it goes I suppose. There's never any miracle solution, of course.

Is there a product in the line that can be recommended–more aggressive than M83, but more Cyclo "friendly"?

Well, to be honest, you should really listen to the source: Megs. I mean after all, they developed it and tested it.

                Good luck!

The Cyclo is unique in that it has two polishing heads instead of one, like this...

                    Cyclo Polisher

At this time we don't do any testing of our products for this tool thus we don't have any official recommendations. The M105 is formulated for and intended for use with a rotary buffer or by hand.

Many people have had great results using this product with a DA Polisher which is similar to a Porter Cable style DA Polisher but Meguiar's at this time does not have an official recommendation for using M105 with any type of DA Polisher so if you decide to try it it's with the understanding that we don't guarantee you'll get good results when M105 is used this way.

Nutshell recommendation is you'll have to experiment for yourself...

I agree with kty10 and a few others who have commented on 151.

If you are looking for a sort of all in one product, definitely look into it. From what I hear it works pretty good for an all in one...
But like mike said, try it out.

                        Re: M105–rotary only??

D151 and M105 are AMAZING products that I find myself reaching for time after time. Both saves OODLES of time and produce amazing results in the process.

Personally, the added cost is WAY worth the results and time saved. I just don't have another product that cuts as quicjkly, effectively, and safely as M105 in my arsenal.

D151 also saves me time from taping off in many cases, in addition to turning my cheaper details into a single step rather than 2. Worth it.

PS, AutoDetailingSolutions sells M105 by the gallon for $69.99~

(Or in smaller quantities, also at fantastic pricing).
