Very close in cleaning ability but a much safer formulation for sensitive/delicate bits under the hood.

Sweet! Would be nice to just do a quick polish on the polish aluminum underhood parts rather than having to put a ton of time into them after every motor wash.

Mike, could you clarify "non-caustic cleaners" for us? For example, would APC+ (say, 4:1 dilution) be considered as caustic? Would it be considered less safe for delicate engine parts than the new Engine Cleaner?

I imagine that you are positioning the product as much gentler for engines, and environment, than the super-strong products like Gunk Engine Brite. I don't need a strong engine cleaner, and APC+ seems to do a good job for me. But I'm happy to buy a bottle of this stuff if it will do a better job for me than APC+.

Engine Cleaner has a pH in the 7.5 - 8.5 range so it's pretty mild in that regard. "Caustic" is generally used to describe very corrosive alkaline solutions so this definitely does NOT fit into that category. APC, while having a pH of 12.3 straight isn't really "caustic" either, although without diluting it can stain some more delicate metals. But diluted, as you all know, it's fantastic stuff.

Is this biodegradeable? If I wash this off my engine, will I be putting oil or lubricants on the ground?

Well, anything it dislodges or removes from the engine is going to be washed off and end up on the ground, and that stuff is likely to be much worse than what's inside this bottle.

well im talking the normal diesel oil leaks that run down the oil pan etc and then gets built up with grease etc from dirty roads etc. More or less like the oil that turns to a gunk more than a liquid

That should be easily dealt with. But if you've got years of nasty build up that would otherwise require a strong degreaser, it's still going to need a strong degreaser.

That or plastic wrap, just to be safe, is always a good idea if you're going to be rinsing things down with a lot of water. Things like the ECU and other electric connections may not like getting that wet.

I don't know how Mike will answer this, but I am quite satisfied with APC for all my cleaning needs...under the hood, wheels, etc. I dilute it about 7:1 to be on the safe side. I don't let these areas get real dirty in the first place. As not everyone that shops in auto stores or big box retailers know about APC, my guess is this new Engine Cleaner product is for those not familiar with the Detailer line.

We bolded your last line because it is 100% spot on. Don't lose sight of the fact that this is a consumer product, and consumer products are generally designed for just that market - the guy who's just going into a parts store looking for a product designed to address a specific issue he wants to correct. Not everyone is willing to buy a gallon of a product, plus a spray bottle, then properly dilute it before use. For the "average consumer" that's a hassle and not at all convenient. For MOL members and other Car Crazy detailing enthusiasts, it's perfectly normal.

Define "built up oil and junk" There are limits to everything and this is not a super heavy duty degreaser that will cut through the worst of things in a heartbeat. It almost sounds like you might need something a bit more potent - like a strong dilution of Super Degreaser.

Yeah, try working here when we're dealing with this many new products all at once!!!! It's been a bit crazy around here the past few months, but we've got such an awesome group of guys in R&D, Marketing and Graphics working together to get everything put together and wrapped up that it somehow all manages to get handled. Teamwork at it's finest, trust us!

I trust you guys Mike!! Meguiar's really came through and the hardwork really shows. I think that the company has improved in the quantity and quality of products you're releasing.

How about the strength? Which is it comparable to? APC/APC+/Super Degreaser?
