I have a 1978 brown and white tri-hull that i am restoring. I started off with the #49 applied with a rotary and a wool pad. That really brought the gel-coat out of a 30 year sleep, but when I applied the #45 polish next, it seemed to dull the shine instead of make it glossy. I have read on several forums to apply the polish first and then compound followed up by polish again. I think I might try this on the other side of the boat to see if it makes any difference. Just curious if any of you have done the #45/#49/#45 steps and had better results instead of starting with a compound first. Also, I applied the polish by hand instead of using the rotary since you have to take the polish off wet. Thanks for any info you can give me.
