  • Can you use auto range on a gel-coat boat????

    Hi All

we have a 6mtr (19ft) fibreglass (gel-coat) boat and want to (obviously) polish it with in an inch of its life..

what we want to know is, is it safe to use the 80 range products on the gel coat or will it eventually break it down and cause damage

what is the difference between the auto and marine range????

Yes, it is safe to use the #80 products.

Gel Coats are harder than car paints, so the #80 products may not be enough to solve you swirls, but you can defiantly try.

I've used M84, M85, and M105 on gel coats. For the most part, I found M84 and M85 to work better, but the paint was in very bad condition.

The Marine line offers some more aggressive products to deal with the challenging gel coats.

IT would be safe to try. Do a test spot and see what happens.

Generally speaking you want to avoid compounds and other abrasive products intended for use in marine application for automotive application due to the aggressiveness of the products and the thinness of the paint on your car.

You are always fine using our automotive paint products on gel coat finishes, but not the marine/RV products on automotive paint. This is because, since gel coats are much harder and much thicker than auto paint the products designed for use on them tend to be more aggressive. This also means that, while the Mirror Glaze is considered safe to use, in some cases you may find certain products to be less effective on gel coat than you might be used to when using the same product on traditional auto paint.
