Re: Hot Shine Tire Gel G-12416 ~ Review

I used it last weekend for the first time-- but in the trigger bottle. I only did one coat and wiped it lightly to spread it. I'd prefer the wipe on product discussed here because you have better control over where it does and does not get applied.

I'll have to experiment with which level of shine I prefer. For the interior surfaces I like matte. For tires, either way looks better than just the untreated dull black.

I used some of my friend's at a car show last weekend. I liked it a lot.
Went out and bought some of my own.

That is the look I had after 1 coat. I call that a medium high shine. I added a second coat per the instructions. This is really the only tire dressing where I saw increased gloss after the second coat.

One thing I did not mention before. I applied the gel with a paint brush. This gives you a lot of control over the application process. This gives the advantage of minimal spillage onto the wheels and no black gunk on your hands! Also, there is no overspray on body panels as there would be with a aerosol spray or trigger. IMHO overspray is unavoidable with an aerosol. And with a trigger spray you will get gunk on your hands if you spray the dressing onto a foam pad for application.

You can spray dressing onto an applicator pad, just do it downwind if you're doing it outside. If you prefer an applicator pad you can always use rubber gloves if you don't want dressing all over your hands. However, the dressing won't kill you and it will eventually wash off.

I like the paint brush because it gives me the most precise control.

I've been using Hot Shine Tire Gel as a replacement for the recently discontinued #38 from the professional line. It does an excellent job and holds up on trim and rubberized parts nicely.
