from the work I did on this lambo I would say that is correct.

You have to be very careful about heating up the wrap too much. Helps to imagine working with an overpowered rotary buffer on delicate paint. Even though you may e using a DA it is basically the same principle due to the nature of the wrap.

there may be other issues that go along with it as well but I have not worked on enough wraps to figure out what they are yet.

so basically we can treat wraps just like normal paint when it comes to buffing/polishing?

    the wraps are vinyl right?

i am just guessing that it is a different vinyl then what is used to make interior panels but it is still does not make since to me how paint polishes will remove defects from it. i am trying to imagine buffing my bash and all i can see is a huge mess. i see company cars with wraps on them and they are all swirled so i am guessing not many people know they can be buffed out. i always look at them as a big sticker and would be worried about catching the edge and have the pad rip it off. can wraps be treated just like paint as far as washing and waxing them too? and i take it by what you used only light polishes are needed?

The wrap has a plastic laminate over it to protect it and so like a clear coat most of the scratches were in the it and not the vinyl. The compounds have enough bite to them to remove a small layer of the laminate like you would clear coat to remove swirls and the like.

The vinyl itself is not designed for cars and has been adapted to that use but the process is still far from perfect.

over time either mate paints and chrome paints will become cheaper and easier to apply and will replace these wraps or the wraps themselves will get better and be more specifically designed for use on cars.

So this is a vinyl wrap that mimics chrome? It really does look stunning in the photos, gj

That's actually a Gallardo and I have seen a couple of those wrapped in Chrome. The one that I worked on was the LP640 or Murcielago.

Wow Scary to think of that driving down the road, I think Smokey Yunick tried to chrome a nascar racer and they threw it out on safety concerns.
Looks like you did an awesome job on it.

Great job. I would've been nervous as heck to polish that car out. Good thing you had your test panels.
