  • My mini detail from the past weekend

This past weekend I had a small job that kept me out of mischief. My current boss has been building a Lotus 7 replica for the past several months and it's finally finished and ready to hit the track. He originally asked me about detailing the whole car, but recently decided to go with a matt black vinyl wrap instead. While chatting to him about the options, the idea of a polished aluminium and matt black combo was mentioned. He then brought me an offcut of aluminium which I polished up as a test process. He liked the end result and asked me to do the two side panels.

I polished the aluminium with Meguiars Nxt All Metal Polysh, using a 4" cutting pad on the DA. Refining was done with the same product and process, just substituting the cutting pad with a finishing pad.

The car will be going in this week for the vinyl wrapping. All the red panels will be wrapped in matt black and the polished aluminium will be wrapped with clear vinyl, hence me not applying any LSP to the surface.

The best part of the days work was the test drive after finishing up the polishing .

Very nice work. Be sure to post some pics after it has the wrap in place.

Caterham? Westfield? Something more local perhaps? Either way, what a killer car the 7 is!

And to echo J.A. Michaels' comment, let's see it with the black wrap once it's done!

The car was built using the Locost chassis - for more info click here.

Wrapping is +-90% done and I will be posting pictures of the finished item as soon as I get them from the owner.
