Wow what an incredible day we had! It doesn't get much more fun than this. We had 24 people show up in 20 MINI's. We had lots of sunshine, doughnuts for breakfast, sushi, pizzas, greek salad, a realistic MINI Cooper cake, homemade banana bread and deserts! More than half the people that came were first timers to our clinic, and the majority of MINI's were 2005!

We also did an Ian Cull (GBMINI) Auto Up circuit (http://www.gbmini.net/MINIcircuit/index.shtml) and an MTH Cartune ECU mod (http://www.mth-powerchip.de/_neu1407/e_index.php) and prepped a 3rd car for the MTH mod for next months meet!

As you can see, we do more than just detailing! Spryguy put up a post on NAM (http://www.NorthAmericanMotoring.com) asking for help on installing his AutoUp circuit. I saw it, and suggested he come to our clinic, and not only did he get the circuit installed, but he left with a freshly detailed car that looked much better than when it arrived!

We also got interest in doing a group buy on the G100's. I hope that's something we can get setup!

Look at the menu! That's an actual 3d MINI Cooper Cake!

We used Meguiar's NXT Car Wash ! The most common comment was how good NXT smells!

    MINI's everywhere!!

Here I am the host, demonstrating how to use the G100.
I gotta say, I used these Dr. Scholls Gel Inserts in my shoes, and if felt soooo good, even though I was on my feet all day. Go here and get a $2 coupon! http://www.drscholls.com/showcase.aspx?scid=2

To help explain the power of the PCDA, I like to refer to this picture of MINIclo's Wicked Wanda's bonnet from our first Garage Clinic. The dramatic before (on right) and after is enough convincing!

You're never too young to learn!
This is Jerrod, Nathaniel and Alice's son with someone else's EB MCS.

    The fun never stopped!

    c3 members guiding first timers!
Nathaniel at the controls of the PCDA with James providing guidance. This was Nathaniel's first detail clinic. He purchased his MCS second hand from a woman who wasn't an enthusiast, and treated the MINI very poorly. It's good to know his new MCS is now in a loving home!

In No Time At All, He's an Expert!

At Our Clinics, we teach the full process, including Clay Bar!
While our clinics are designed for beginners, we like to cover the entire range of steps. We're also glad to answer any questions along the way. We use Meguiar's NXT Car Wash , Quik Detailer , Meguiar's Clay , #83, NXT Tech Wax , Gold Class Metal Polish, Gold Class Trim Detailer, andScratchX.

Look at all the gunk that was removed! I took this picture after he had been working on the bonnet for atleast 10 minutes, so it's not as dirty as it was earlier!

Even how to clean up past mistakes like paste wax that got all over!

    And ugly stuff like this!

I wasn't sure what Meguiar's product I could use to get rid of this, so I used old my trusty stand by and finished up with Gold Class Trim Detailer
    MINI Plastic Care # 83-12-0-142-624

Working on your own car is fun, but so is working on someone elses!

Our clinics aren't just for adults!

    It's about teamwork!

    Making new friends!

    And Helping Others!

Toshi with the PCDA. His PCDA was stolen last month, but Meguiar's came to the rescue and helped ensure that we could continue to do our clinics!

    And Learning from others!

Work or play, it's all fun!!

That's what's so great about these events. You can either sit back and have your car worked on by others...

...Or you can jump right in and do it yourself!
Oona had only been in California for 3 weeks as she is a New York native. She drove her cabriolet across the country putting on 3500 miles! Our NXT clinic was her first MINI group outing since she arrived and she was VERY pleased and excited! It was quite an honor for us!

This was the days youngest participant! It's actually my son,Lukas, being held by Toshi's wife, Kuniko!

Because our club doesn't charge dues, we rely on donations from participants, and from what we call the core c3 members to help keep the club going. c3 was founded by 4 passionate individuals, affectionately known as the core. This core has grown to 6 active members + 3 other part time supporters. The core is responsible for providing food and drinks for our participants. We also split the cost of expenses. This also forces us to be frugal and creative! Here is a sweatshirt that we silked screened at Richard's house, 1 week prior to this clinic. Richard held a PhotoEZ silk screen party as a part demonstration and part production! Being able to utilize new technologies with a bit of know-how enables us to try out ideas that wouldn't ordinarily be possible due to the costs involved.

While this picture was from last week, it shows the screen before paint was applied.

Look how pretty this 2005 Hyper Blue MCS looks! The sun was going down fast but we got the job done! The driver side rear panel between the door and the rear wheel arch had some mild abrasions in the clear coat. Looked almost like steel wool or a rough terry towel rubbed from side to side. I buffed it out with #83 using a red pad, then buffed on NXT Tech Wax with a polishing pad.

All in all, it was an incredible day of meeting new people, teaching proper car care techniques, introducing the full line of Meguiar's products, eating great food, and playing with so many MINI's!! Our following seems to be growing by the month. I wonder how big it will be next month!

Stay tuned for February's event! We're expecting something really different and exciting to happen.

    Need New Trim Detailer

Boy...I was tired after applying Gold Class Trim Detailer to 7 MINIs.
I could use some of New Meguiar's line for Detailing Trim and Tires.
I was surprised that many owners prefer to have GC Trim Detailer on wheel trims, but its bit harder to apply, and attract dust. So I am hoping that new products comming out soon before next detailing day.

And "BIG" thanks to Meguiar's and Mike Phillips for generous gift

The next time you guys have one of these clinics, please let me know by email(backus101@yahoo.com) or by PM here on these forums. I'd like to attend and have supplies I can share. I don't own a Mini, but I think they're cool, my girlfriend however LOVES them. Not to mention I have a PC that everyone can use as well as a rotary
      I want 4" Softbuff pads!

Pictures from C3 January Club Meeting

Here are some of the pictures I took Saturday. All the pictures are clickable for a higher resolution version. Be sure to click the last one of Lukas; such a cute kid.

It was good to see so many people (including a lot of new faces) and so many MINIs. From what we pieced together there were 19 or 20 cars total at today's event and 15 got the Meguiar's Detailing treatment.

Thanks to Richard for the excellent advice. I noticed a few people comment that things were more efficient today because a lot of people were already trained in some aspects of detailing from the last events.

Also, today we celebrated another birthday with another COOPER CAKE. The COOPER CAKE tasted as good as it looks. Just amazing.

See everyone at the next meeting!

          Richard,

I had such a great time at the event! Before picking up my brand new MINI, I was driving around an old beater that basically only got washed when it rained ! So hearing about the c3 club and these detailing clinic events was such a blessing.

My main reason for coming (besides the opportunity to meet lots of new MINI owners) was that a co-worker's messy, oily hair-product had smeared on my soft leather headrest, and I was worried about how to get it off. I didn't even try the mild soap and water you told me to start with. I'm definitely going to be picking up some of that Gold Class Leather Cleaner - because it did the trick, didn't it?

It was great being able to watch how to properly wash the car, and how to prep it for waxing. I never thought I'd be the kind of girl to be into power tools, but MAN, that Dual-Action Orbital Polisher was so much fun to use! I am TOTALLY going to buy one!

Everything was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and it was great learning in such a fun, easy-going environment. Thank you so much for hosting the event and being so informative and (!) patient. I will most-definitely be at the next one, but in the meantime, I'm going to empty my wallet buying all kinds of fun stuff, like the NXT Generation wax, and the Quik Detailer, and the microfibre towels, and the Stoner's Invisible glass, and the NXT Generation car wash, and some buckets, and some of those washing mitts, and a claybar (who knew?!?), and some Trim Detailer and some (blah blah blah)...

          Thanks again!!

              Hey gbackus,
Sure I'll let you know. We're currently looking at either Feb. 12 or Feb. 19. Not certain yet. I'll add you to our mailing list. Thanks for the PC & supplies offer. More and more members have been acquiring them, so I think we'll have 4 next or possibly even 5 next month. As for the rotary, I will politely decline that except for maybe cleaning off my buffing pads.

Yep, that was the Meguiars Leather Cleaner that did the trick! I'm glad you were able to make it on such short notice! We'll definitely continue our lessons next month! Take care!

What's wrong with the cutting pad on the PCDA? I was gentle!

What a pleasant surprise to see so many new enthusiastic faces. Never realized how many cloths & how much Quick Detailer we use.... I'm almost tempted to bring a clothes drying rack next time so we can have a continuous stream of towels ;-)

It was great treat to get very close to the details of a new Astro Black Convertible!

Those MINI-Cakes keep getting more accurate too!

Thanks Everyone for another well spent Saturday

ps. Just thought i'd mention something for those of you who are considering a G-100 Polisher:
I had purchased the backing plate/pads at an official Meguiar's Detailing event; separate from my G-100 unit. (Not in Kit)
However, thanks to Richard i discovered before using it that there are two backing plates available.

The one sent to me has a redish-brown plate material that is rather stiff & has a sharp edge.
A better choice are the yellow-orange ones we have been using at our own MINI-Detailing events which have a more *sponge-like* feel & larger diameter round edges.
So please be sure to insist on ordering the softer yellow-orange one as with my case; only the stiffer one was offered since the local warehouse didn't have any others in stock & i was not informed of of the orange one's existence at the time.

I see on the Meguiars.com website that this backing plate is for the Rotary buffer, which is the one you got:

For some reason there isn't a picture for the Dual Action Polisher backing plate, which MIGHT be the one you are referring to, that seems to be constructed mostly out of flexible yellow rubber. I'll see if I can dig up more info on it.

This is what you are referring to (seen at Meguiars on their G100)

Btw, the Meguiars Shop Apron rocks. I could keep a bottle of NXT and my digital camera close at hand while I worked!

I also have been using a lot of the Quick Detailer. For a large group detailing event such as yours you may want to try the Meguiar's Last Touch detail spray from the Detailer Line.

It comes in gallons and you have to reuse your empty Quick Detailer spray bottles. But it works wonderfully and ends up costing less than 1/2 as much. The only drawback is you have to get it at a paint supply store rather than off the shelf at Autozone.

Also, I have learned that you can get the Quick Detailer in 32 oz. sizes which is another way to help save in costs.

                          Hey Richard

Again another great time at the NXT Garage Party. I keep learning about more Meguiar's products. I had fun helping Nathaniel clay bar his MCS! His son Jerrod really got into Quick Detailing the cars and helping out, what a crack-up he was! I think he tried to Quick Detail my Nike's lol.
I can't wait for the next one and I can't wait to get my bottle of Quick Detailer for interior's! We should think about doing an interior party!

That yellow backing plate looks a lot like my Lake Country backing plate, as far as I know, Meguiars only makes the burgundy one.
                            I want 4" Softbuff pads!
