  • 2004 Acura TSX Nighthawk Black Pearl

Hello MOL world! First post here. I'm a recent lurker who came here to learn how to properly detail my car. As the title says, I own a 2004 Acura TSX...in Nighthawk Black Pearl. Very difficult color to keep clean and swirl free. As such, my car is LOADED with swirls, RIDS, etc. I purchased this car back in August of 2003 brand new, so I am the only owner, meaning all defects are my doing! Well, I've been sick and tired to having an awesome overall car but one that looks pretty dull and swirly after washing. So I did what any DIY car enthusiast would do...buy some supplies and take care of it. Keep in mind, this is my first try at trying a proper detail on the exterior. I've never used a DA polisher before. I made my purchase from ADS last week based on my research here on MOL.

M105, M205, G110v2, NXT 2.0, Super Degreaser, clay, and other miscellaneous items. YIPPIE!:

Just a note, I have only done a test spot so far. Full try at defect removal will occur in the following weeks. Work/life always getting in the way !

Ok, now for some pics of the car:

This was taken back in '05...still pretty new, from a distance looks really nice. I know, it's an old pic, but wanted to show what the car looks like. Apparently I didn't really take any pictures of my car between then and now...so this will have to do:

Flash forward to current time. Effects of having a lazy owner (me) and frequent automatic carwashes...after I complete the defect removal, NO MORE automatic carwashes, NO MORE being lazy about taking care of my car!

    Ouch!

Taped off my test section and gave the area a quick "wash".

This is after claying and doing a quick round of M105 w/ the G110v2. Again, first time using the DA, so I'm sure my technique is not up to par yet. I believe "timid" would be accurate. Kinda hard to tell, but I would say about 90% of swirls removed. Some RIDS still visible:

Look at the pearl effect! She's coming back!

After following up with some M205:

And finally some NXT 2.0 and removed the tape for a little 50/50 shot:

I'll get some real sun shots outside later when I get going on the rest of the car. Since I started this around 10 pm tonight, sun shots aren't available. I just wanted to get a post up on my first try at this and just wanted to get a feel of the DA and compounds involved. Not too shabby for a first try right? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for taking a look! I am really looking forward to working on the rest of the car, this was fun !

Yeah that looks awesome so far, it'll look better when you're done than it did 7 years ago when it was new. My Accord is NHBP and had wash marks like crazy before paint correction. I didn't fully appreciate the pearl until after it was fully corrected. I love the TSX by the way, black ones are rare around here, there are a lot of white and red.
