  • Epiphone Les Paul. M26 treatment.

I am learning to play, but still struggling. So after getting frustrated this morning, I decided to give it a coat of M26....which really makes black SHINE! Sorry, but I only have my camera phone for pics, so they aren't that great.

And then my sidekick Belle wanted in on the pics

Fantastic! I've actually never thought about detailing my guitars- they have quite a bit of swirl marks too! what a perfect opportunity to practice on something that won't take 5 hours to do.

    Nice guitar as well Golden.

Thank you! There were no swirls on it really, as it got NXT 2.0 as soon as I got it. lol

Hi Golden.I've never really thought about using Meg's on my guitars. So it's nice to see you tried it and came out so good.I normaly just use the dunlop 65 stuff as it's watery and not greasy, like QD.Although they call it polish,it's not really. But it is good for cleaning.

I don't get swirls either? Scratches yes. The price of guitars today is nuts!

Stick in anyway.I thought you'd be more of a Strat man....SRV

I've been playing since I was 10,but don't have the time these days.I wish I did..

Always good to speak to a fellow player....

Yeah I was looking at Fender's, but was recommended to this Les Paul, and I liked it.

          Nice collection!

I hope no one mistook what I said about QD.I could've written it better. What I meant was the QD was similair in texture to the dunlop stuff.Anyway..no matter.

Epiphone were around before Gibson.I can't remember if they were together way back. But they(epiphone)make good stuff.Good acoustics aswell.

            Standard Strats...I love the sound,but I don't like the construction methods,(Bolt-on-neck).

Unless you already do this, get lemon oil for your fretboard.

Most people taking up the guitar want to play like Satriani,Lukather and Vai.Thing is,it involves speed.Actuall 'picked' notes aswell as hammerons.
That's why a lot of people get frustrated and don't persevere. If someone is serious about this, they'll go through hours upon hours of practice, daily.I know as I've done this. It's the only way.Speed picking is not a natural thing, and has to be built up over time. It's very, very boring and strict.you must follow through with excercies and scales daily. You need to have a metronome to be exact.Everyone will have their own limitations, though.when i used to practice speed playing,I could play 16ths upto 180-190bpms.But I would never really use it?But I knew what my limit was,so to speak. If you don't keep at it,you have to practice again, but it'll be quicker as you've done it before.

Although this has nothing to do with detailing, just thought I'd mention it as you had a liking to it,plus maybe help Golden out aswell.

I am just trying to learn powerchords at the moment.

BTW, I saw Johnny Winter two weeks ago live. He still has it on the guitar!

Yeah I mean I knew what to do to get to where I wanted to be, I practiced my a$$ off for 8 years on sax to get to where I am. There is actually a video of me playing on the internet from highschool, but I wont post the link because I think it sounds terrible Its just that because I already knew the things for sax didnt want to take the time to basically reteach myself something else. I know its really sad but hopefully I will start up again at another time.

Detailing wise, a friend of mine that is crazy good at guitar said he uses Meguiars stuff for his strat. I think he said they have a guitar line?? Can anyone confirm this?

Hi john,if you go into the furniture part of the forum and read the post(i think)about lemon oil,it was brought up.I think Meguiar's made a guitar polish kit or something like that for Fender, but I don't think they do anymore.

Maybe you could detail your sax and put up some pics?

                        Thats a good idea

Only problem is I need product help for that, here is the materials its made of.

Gold lacquer body and keys, iced silver plated bow and bell, and polished silver plated inside the bell.

Any ideas the best things to use?

Edit: I would also need something to get under all the little springs and levers as my fingers are to big

Hi John.I had a look on the square(cool!).I only know about cleaning guitars,so I can't really say much here. But being expensive instruments, you'll want to take care.I would reckon, there'll be an instrument cleaning kit for sax.I would reckon there must be special swabs for getting into difficult areas. How thick the laquer is on your sax is something you'll need to consider.I would reckon that the silver plated parts could be polished, but you'd have to be very gentle.Plated surfaces can rub through if worked on too aggressivley.
Try putting a post in the break room with a pic.Maybe there'll be someone here can help.I'll have a look around the web...
