Re: Tried out a cheap random orbital buffer, great results!
I have a $45 Rockford 10" R/O buffer and it makes for some pretty slick results. I just used it the other day to polish and wax both my mom's and sister's cars. I then used it today to put 2 coats of wax on a 2010 Camaro SS and the results were pretty impressive.

Re: Tried out a cheap random orbital buffer, great results!
If your vehicle has very delicate paint then you may very well see pretty good results using an inexpensive orbital like this. If you're doing a great job of maintaining the finish on a daily driver and want to do a quick 3 step process, then an inexpensive tool may be fine as well.
But the harder the paint, the more demanding your expectations, the more vehicles you work on, the worse the level of defects that need correcting, the more you'll want a tool with more power. And with that added power usually comes more options of pads and liquids suitable to it.
At the end of the day, however, we all have slightly different expectations and needs. If this gets the job done for you, so be it.

Re: Tried out a cheap random orbital buffer, great results!
i just picked up a budget 40 dollar 6inch random orbital da buffer as well... i cldnt justify getting a porter cable just yet... the buffer is essentially something to substitute using my hand for the 3 step system.. and maybe, like yourself, use with scratchx or UC.... and of course waxing.....
glad to see you can get very decent results.. i realize it wont be able to do what a pc can do with m105 etc, but i prob will never detail my daily driver to the point of a 100% flawless finish

Way to go.I definitley like this rack set-up much better. I used to have stuff on a small wall-shelf and in a big drawer in the back of the garage. If I wanted to I could wheel the whole thing into the driveway!
