I’m retired and living on social security and meager savings. I spent most of my money on whiskey, wild women, and sailboats; the rest I spent foolishly. My car was aging too. Money was tight, the car was in good mechanical condition, but the paint was fading. I decided that although I was inexperienced I could probably manage to paint it myself. I purchased an inexpensive spray gun, borrowed a friend’s garage, and set out to get her done. I carefully and patiently taped everything while reciting the mantra ‘preparation is everything’ and finally got to the actual spraying. Now I was getting somewhere, I could see progress and reveled in the sight and smell of the paint. I was determined to be careful but found myself becoming distracted and noticed a sag here and there. I recommitted myself to patience and carefulness. Then I could see myself flying around and over the car and flawlessly applying the paint – I was having an auto body experience.
