Thought you guys would like this.

Car came in with some major paint issues...and the owner (a good friend of mine) just wanted the car to look a little bit better. In some places, the paint needed major attention.

    When the car came in.

I decided to start on the door and passenger side rear quarter panel. I began by wet sanding with 2500 grit sand paper...moving to 3000 grit sand paper...and then to an orange pad with m105.

In some places, the paint still shined...in others it did not.

    Before

After (top panel was corrected sufficiently without wet sanding...just m105 and orange pad)

    Before

More pics to follow as I continue to make progress...

Darn that pesky Photobucket - you've already exceeded bandwidth on most of the images so we can't see them. The 2002tii is such an awesome car, too!

I will re-host the pics at my other photobucket account.

Someone on a bigger forum must have linked these pics...

Nice! Even nicer than we thought, quite frankly. You're doing an outstanding job on this project from the looks of it. How many hours do you think you have in it thus far?

Mike, I have 2-3 hours into the car thus far. I've been attacking it in between a few other things i have going on right now. I suspect it will take 6-8 hours to finish it though...

Here are the same pics...hosted in a different place.

                  Re: 72 bmw 2002

Sorry about the lack of updates...just acquired a house and I've been busy with it.

Did the driver side rear quarter panel today...in some places this paint just ***** to work with...finished it with ultra soft foam pad (usually used for wax) and a sealant that has really fine abrasives to "jewel" the paint.

The roof is next...and its going to be a lot of work...then we're doing the trunk after the lights and other chrome pieces are uninstalled.

(in this pic, you'll see paint that is peeling...goal here is to sand it and then respray it.)

Also, sorry about the quality of the pics...host didn't like high resolution picture for some reason...will try to upload it again later)

a little more progress. beginning to hit the entire car with m205 and a yellow pad...on speed 4-5. having pretty good luck finishing the paint with this combination.

It's coming along very nicely and really transforming the look of the car. Too bad about the areas where the paint is beyond salvage, but given the age of the car that's not a big surprise. Still, the cosmetic improvements you're making are huge, and this car certainly deserves at least that much!

Great job and what a difference. I'm sure "a little bit better" will be an understatement.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Wow! Some of those shots are worthy of being on a Meguiars product bottle. I can't believe how great it is coming along.
