Hey Everyone,
Everyone loves to look at an extreme make-over detail. It is awesome to see a vehicle come back to life. And with the right equipment and the superior products, it can be done! So while I normally try and stick to special interest vehicles, sometimes when a challenge comes up, I just can not let it go. Moreover, when I test products, I want to REALLY put them to the test! There is no better test to push a product to its limits than an extreme make-over!
It is that time a year again, when most people like to do a Spring cleaning on their vehicles. A guy I know bought a 2003 F350 Super Duty Power Stroke, chassis cab at a really good price! One catch…it was dirty…real dirty! Because the truck is a chassis cab, the owner will be placing a special aluminum box on the back. But before he does that, he asked me if I would detail it. Now when he said to me…it is dirty…he MEANT it!
Like the previous extreme detail F150 I just completed, this truck is also a beautiful red metallic. And just like that other truck, this paint was as hard as glass as well! Both of these red Fords have some of the hardest paint I have seen! I had to resort to using #84 and a W-7006 Cutting pad on a Rotary Buffer to remove the swirls and scratches. I did try the G100, but that did not make a dent in the swirls, even after several passes with #83 DACP!
Since this truck was so dirty, I had to pull out a LOT of Meguiar’s products! And I mean… A LOT! If I did not several of these products, this detail may not have been possible! Here is the lengthily list of products used:
Meguiar’s
* D-11201 Super Soap (This stuff really rinses well!!!)

* MX-2005 Marine Water Magnet Drying Towel
* D-16001 All Season Dressing
* D-17001 Hyper Dressing
* G-13005 NXT All Metal Polysh
* #84 Compound Power Cleaner with W-7006 Cutting Pads w/ Rotary
* #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish with W-8006 Polishing Pads w/ Rotary
* #80 Speed Glaze with W-8006 Polishing Pads w/ G100
* #21 Synthetic Sealant with a W-9006 Finishing Pad w/ G100
* X-2010 Supreme Shine Microfiber
* X-4003 Gold Class Microfiber Bonnets over a W-7006 Cutting Pad
I first started off by washing the truck. I used a pressure washer to remove the heavy grime. After cleaning the wheels, and washing the truck with Meguiar’s new Super Soap (One of my new favorite products! This stuff foams an incredible amount!), I pulled the truck into my garage.

And...it was swirled like crazy! The picture does not show how bad it really was!

And for a painful close-up!

But first, I decided to tackle the dirty interior. This interior was one of the dirtiest I have seen. I do not usually do interiors as I mostly stick to polishing paint. But this time, the owner did request that I try and do what I could. He told me that he thought that there was little that could be done; for a while, I tended to agree with him!
Here is the interior before I scrubbed and cleaned it. I used Meguiar’s APC to clean the entire cab. I used the Detailer Carpet and Upholstery Foam for the seats, Hyper Dressing for the rubber floor and Quik Interior Detailer Wipes for the dash and doors.
I was extremely pleased with the new Quik Interior Detailer Wipes. Once I cleaned the dash and door panels with the APC, I used the wipes to go over the interior pastics. The result was a beautiful satin sheen and a nice clean smell! The results are quite startling to say the least!
***Please note that I am not recommending nor suggesting the use of Hyper Dressing on rubber floors. The owner has floor mats which will be used, and do not have any kind of dressing on them. Also, when dry, Hyper Dressing is not very slippery, so the mats on top of the rubber floor will not slide around. ***
Before: can we say ....DIRTY!

Here are the afters. Ahhhh….much better! Thank you Meguiar’s!

Before I compounded the paint, I used the Body Solvent on the bottom of the door and quarter panels for light tar. I sprayed it on and left it for about 20 minutes while I clayed the hood, and roof etc. After wiping it off the light tar, I discovered that it had some type of over spray on the paint or another substance. Nothing would loosen this stuff. So I pulled out the Meguiar’s C-2100 Aggressive Detailing Clay. It is amazing how awesome this stuff works!!! I normally stick to the mild clay, but since I was going to compound/Rotary buff the truck, I used it.
Next it was on to taping the truck. This is one area that I make sure that I am very thorough with. Though I usually do not get buffer sling from the rotary, all it takes is one …oops! and you have a huge mess to clean up!

After all of the buffing, here is the finished truck! It looks a LOT better! And best of all, the trucks owner was just thrilled!

And of course…I am exhausted. Time for a little shut eye! Oh…of course I layed my head on a MF towel; I was not about to mark the finish!

Though every muscle I have aches, I am very pleased with the results! It just goes to show that even a dirty vehicle with the right equipment, and the right products can look better than new!!
