Richard, an awesome job and write-up. I can understand why the owner is so proud of his car now.
One comment about the painter fellow, Isn't this car worth more with the original paint than it would be with a respray? If he was on a vintage Mustang forum, shouldn't he know that?
It's a great job and no one can take that away from you. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks ninee3cobra and WayFarerWalk

Yes I agree, restoring the original paint should make the car more valuable. Just a note, I saw the car yesterday and it looks exactly the same as the day I buffed it out.

        That's great to hear!

As for the comments made by the person on the mustang forum, your work is more than enough "argument" as to what can be done using quality products and good techniques. It's pretty hard to refute results like the ones on this car.

EDIT: Just curious if he ever visited this site or showcargarage??

        I seriously doubt it.

Again, great job on the Mustang Richard! You gave that classic Stang the dignity it deserves!

I just found this forum today and this is exactly the type of thread I was hoping to find. I have a 55 Chevy in similar shape and seeing Richard's results gives me hope. If mine turns out half as good as his did I'll be happy.

              Good job Richard!

Great! I'll start bringing my troll-repellant...
My car's so shiny I can see your car's swirls in its reflection.

Haha, thanks! LOL. There's a shop around the corner of my house that fixes all kinds of old cars, and now I'm seeing some really cool classics sitting out front with similar paint finishes. So far I've resisted the temptation to say anything. LOL

Yesterday, I found out from a customer that my neighbors Mustang was for sale! It's funny how small our world is. I detailed this customers MINI, he showed his coworker who is a Mustang fanatic my work on the Mustang, the coworker showed the customer the listing on craigslist, he posted on our club forum about the stang, I emailed my neighbor---and he's like--"How did you find out?" LOL

(Hopefully this isn't considered a commercial link)

If the link gets removed, then go to the Los Angeles Craigslist and search this number 176625884

I noticed from the pictures that his engine looked REALLY awful for such a great looking car. What was the neighborly thing to do? Arrange for an engine detail!

So we got together and it was the first time I'd seen the car up close in a long while. Sadly all the wax protection was gone. I restored the car back in February. It was garaged for atleast 2 months, and sat outside uncovered for atleast 2-1/2 months. It hadn't been washed or waxed at all since then.

Looking at this picture that I posted from the first restore, the right side is what it looked like after rinsing the paint down with water.

The paint began to oxidize as well, but not to the point before the restore. There were some left over areas of the original unrestored paint and we could compare how it looked to the current state of the paint.

So I gave him a PC and with two PC's and W8006 pads and NXT Tech Wax we went to town waxing the car again. The gloss was restored, the pads turned red with paint, and it looked as good as it did back in February.

My neighbor didn't want me to spend time on the car since he was selling it. If I had my way, I would have clayed it, ran M80 on it, then ended with M21 or Tech Wax. I'll post some pix shortly.

The engine bay looked much better but not great. There was lots of overspray in the engine compartment, and even after wetsanding some of the components with 2500 grit paper, while it improved the look, it still wasn't great.

                      Richard

Thanks! Yes it got sold about 2 weeks ago to a kid on Craigslist! Not sure how much he got, but he did say he got more than he would have thanks to the buffing.

Sweet!! Hope he told the new owner about your work and your business. It's the least he can do for all the hard work you put into it.

I met the new owner, and he came with his mother! I really don't think he or his family will be hiring me any time soon. Although I know I shouldn't prejudge people, that was the feeling I got .

                              LOL
