  • M#21 Product Review

    Meguiar’s #21 Polymer Sealant. [#21 Synthetic Sealant; 2hotford ]

That’s quite a mouthful, no? Well, the name is a mouthful. I wouldn’t take the sealant itself as a mouthful, however.

I did a very intense makeover on my car. This I will reserve for the #21 review only.

    Standard questions:
    Packaging
This was a sample bottle, generously sent by Mike Phillips. Small clear bottle with a white label. I didn’t like the fact I had to pour it. I was tempted to drill a hole in the cap with a dremel to make a squeeze bottle out of it. Decided it was too much effort for a sample bottle!

    Physical description
Purple liquid with a synthetic almost Pepto-Bismol scent to it. Viscosity is surprisingly water, feels like a thick non-mineral oil based lotion.

    Application
I applied it with a PC set around 4.3. About 1/3 of the bottle went onto my Accord with one coat. Very little went quite a long way. It applied very evenly and smoothly. Areas that managed to get a little extra were easy to remove the excess and move on.
Trim and windows were no issue. It did not stain my trim, both plastic and rubber, at all. Windows wiped off very easily. I’m going to take some time tomorrow and remove the residue from the cracks (I was in a rush to leave today, sorry!).

    Removal
Meguiar’s, thank you for creating the Ultimate Bonnet. Wax removal has never been so simple.
#21 came off amazingly well with this over the 8006 polishing pad on the PC. There was slight dusting, but it was extraordinarily minimal and taken care of with a supreme shine microfiber. I saved 2 panels for removal with the same mf towel and it was just as easy, if not more so. Removal was just so…straightforward.

    Notes
I know it’s supposed to look better the next day, so we’ll see how that goes. My initial impression is that it’s not as nice as NXT. I prefer the NXT’s gloss and depth, I feel I just get more out of it. I will add more sun pics tomorrow, as it will have cured more and the sun will be out.

I doubt I’ll use more of the #21, as I prefer the NXT. I’ll probably polish off (get it?) the bottle after I run out of NXT, but I doubt I will purchase a bottle of #21.

It’s a great product overall, but just not what I’m looking for!

And here’s some pics of the results of the initial day.

Reflection on the hood. Crisp, clear, but lacking some depth. Perhaps that’ll resolve in 24 hours!

It definatly has some wet look to it! Yum!

It's been a few days since I used 21. Here's some brief follow-up for all you lurkers.

After waiting 24 hours, I didn't see any improvement in the depth of the color. 21 does seem to attract more dust than NXT, imho.

Try giving it a wash to eliminate the dust attraction. It is due to the static that resulted from removing the product with your mf towel. After a wash, the static dies down and it does better in minimizing hte amount of dust attracted to the surface. I think that after 24 hours, the shine more than anything increases, and it definitely feels slicker.

I didn't notice any difference in shine or feel after 24 hours.

I won't wash it today, though that sounds like good advice. It just started raining torrents! Perfect excuse for washing tomorrow!

Under more stress than most sealants, waxes, "polishes," and any form of protection could take, M21 has lasted well.

I applied it a month and 10 days ago, and just retired it today.

What it went through for that month and 10 days are: weekly washings using Meguiars Gold Class, a front driver's side fender repaint, a washing from the painter (no idea what he used...but it was swirl city after he was done), 108ºF Tucson sun, rain, and a little more sun to top it off.

It help up wonderfully, but today I felt it was time for a layer of booster wax.

I fully endorse this product. However, for ease of purchase and for results I feel are superior, I will stick with NXT.

If I were running a detailing gig, I would definatly use this product over NXT for simplicity, results, and the ability to purchase in larger quantities.
