  • Mega Block vs. Sony Bravia

My 2 year old daughter follows her Mom like a shadow. One day while cleaning our living room, our daughter decided to pitch in; she decided to clean our 2 week old Sony Bravia flat screen with a Mega Block!

My wife called almost right away, hoping that if she did something quickly it might help. We all know this is not the case, but she was upset; the TV was a big purchase.

When I got home, the scratches stood out like chalk on a black board with the TV turned off, not noticable when the turned on.

I notice that the screen was actually plastic. I went to my local Napa store and picked up a bottle of Mequiars #10 plastic polish; came home; made 2 passes and honestly there are no signs of the scratches. Not one. If anything, the screen may be a little darker than before, but in my opinion it's added depth to the picture.

What an outstanding product. I discovered #10 in an old dusty garage/shop about 10 years ago. The mechanic told me about using it on snowmobile windscreens and then proved it to me. If you've ever owned a snowmobile that was trail ridden, you know how common scratched windscreens are, and how difficult it can be to remove; with out #10 of course.

Let me guess. No before and after pics?

Glad to hear Meg's saved the day.

Re: Mega Block vs. Sony Bravia

While we are very pleased to hear that things worked out so well for you, just as we did in a similar post recently we're going to warn others that using any of our plastic cleaners or polishes on things like flat screen TVs, laptops, in car NAV screens etc is not recommended by Meguiar's.

Often times these screens have coatings on them and/or are just plain very delicate and they can be damaged by aggressive use of these products.

theraymondguy, the good news is that if you see an improvement then so be it. Any damage that might occur will do so immediately - it won't show up down the line. It sounds as though in your case you almost had nothing to lose since the damage was done, and your story has a happy ending.

We just don't want people seeing a post like this and thinking it's fine to just go at their expensive new TV.

Michael; you hit the nail on the head: nothing to lose. As a heavy equipment mechanic I often use things not as intended, it's part of the job.

Sorry Cnfolwer, no pics just memories. Too many long faces that day to have gotten clinical.

Pardon my ignorance since I don't have kids, but what exactly is a Mega Block?
