  • Just waxed with nxt sand covered

I just did step 1, 2, and 2 coats nxt and someone covered my car in sand.

It was one of the lawn care guys where i work, i think he was purposely doing it with the blower. I went and yelled at him but its completely covered. I was wondering whats the best way to get the sand off without messing anything up.

I didnty want to wash it again so soon but i dont think quick detailer is a good idea with the sand.

As soon as you can, wash with tons of water, the sand off the finish. Try to rinse the sand off as best as possible and don't use a wash mitt as this may grind the sand into the finish. You might even try washing/rinsing as well as you can, and then misting on some car wash solution in a sprayer, or mixing up some car wash solution in a bucket and pouring this onto the finish as the soap itself will help to dissolve and remove the dirt and sand with the force of a strong water spray.

    Be careful...

      Hey,

Sorry to hear about that! It sure makes a person wonder why some feel the need to try and destroy all of someone else's hard work!

Anyway, I would suggest driving it down the road to try and blow the sand off. If you use a compressor etc...it will most likely cause the sand to dig in before it blows off. After driving down the road, I would hose the car first with a gentle stream of water and then a little more pressure to get it out of the crevices etc.

I would be concerned that you get all of the sand out of crevices as this will cause scratches when you start buffing the car. The vibrations from the buffer will loosen any remaining dirt and find its way down onto your buffing pad. So again, it is critical that you remove all of the sand from every hidden spot possible. You may want to take it to a coin wash and use the pressure washer to try and get the sand out of those spots that you may have missed after the initial washing.

It will take some work. But in the end, it will be fine!

Urgh ... I would've done more than yell at him, whether he did it on purpose or not.

What I'd do is use a foam sprayer and get lots of soap on the car but not try to wash off the dirt with it. Then use a bucket of water to make it 'slip' off as much as possible.
If not, then a gentle stream as 2hotford said.
A pressure washer might cause a bit of harm on its own but I'd still use that as a last step to make sure every bit of dirt is washed off.

As Tim mentioned, there is concern for sand and dirt particles to lodge into cracks and crevices, for this either of our new Body Brushes would be perfect for getting into these tight areas and dislodging the particles so you can rinse them off the car.

Yep if that happened to me we both would need to go to the hospital because my foot would be stuck.......I drive it to get the big stuff off or use your wet vac like a blower.....then like Mike said

You don't want to get the sand where you can't get it out.

Yes, I support the spraying some car wash soap ontothe car, diluted a bit probably for the sprayer, to give some more lubricity as it runs off.

If he did it on purpose, that's vandalism.

This is a very timely thread! I vote for the "drive it off" method. At work today they were installing an exhaust fan in a brick wall. They were using a saw or some kind of power tool to cut a hole in the wall. Even though I was parked 4 spaces away, there was cement dust (or brick dust) all over my car. Thanks to a recent application of NXT Spray Booster Wax (and NXT Paste on the hood and front fenders), the paint was very slick. I immediately though of this thread, and Tim's suggestion to drive it (at high speed) down the highway to get most of it off. So I did.

I took the interstate home and 75-80 MPH was just about the perfect speed to get almost all of the debris off the paint.

Tim's truck is always in perfect condition. High gloss, great depth and not a swirl in sight. I also know that he takes it camping, fishing, etc. So I figure he has experienced the full range of environmental hazards, including sand. If anyone has a fix for this mess, it would be him. And sure enough, his suggestion worked perfectly!

A quick pass with the CCD and some Speed Detailer, and the goat's as good as new! I don't even have to wash it!

I'm parking in the parking garage the rest of the week!

Thanks Tim, and the others who contributed to this thread!
