  • Review: DUB wheel cleaner

Test vehicle 2000 GMC 3500HD tow truck.

    Product

Worst case scenario wheel that has not been cleaned in over a month.

Let product dwell for a few minutes.

    Rinse and inspect

At this point I was pretty impressed with the results considering what was removed with no agitation. So I applied the product again let it dwell and then wiped the wheel once with a wet rag before rinsing.

    All clean!

My conclusion: Besides the smell of the product I was very impressed with the performance. In my experience wheel cleaners that are safe for all types of wheels do not work very well. Especially on a truck that is abused like these trucks are (by abused I mean hardly ever washed especially the wheels). I will definitely buy\use and recommend this product to anyone that's looking for a new wheel cleaner. Normally I use Wheel Brightener on wheels this bad but it can be risky because of the acid. So I say "Good Job Meguiars," you have a winner in my book. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed my first write up\review of a product.

I know its not meant for tires but have you tried it on the tires yet? I really wouldnt want to carry around a seperate tire and wheel cleaner.

Also hows the mess after? If im in a customers driveway i doubt they want to see some radioactive **** floating in the driveway.

Doesn't work on tires. I tried it. You may want to look into D143 non-acid wheel & tire cleaner.

I was kind of worried myself about the "radioactive" look of it... It seems a little thick too. the only car I did with it was in a corporate parking lot and I was hoping no one would pass by and ask questions.

If it is just like Sonax Full Effect, this product looks amazing! Now I can get an iron remover from Meguiar's! But, like Sonax I would not use this on tires, its really not its intended purpose, think of this as the second step in a cleaning a wheel if just washing won't remove all the contaminates. I really am working away from using harsh wheel cleaners except on TRASHED (and only those that require all caps) cars, as being unnecessarily harsh to the wheels' paint and tires' rubber seems a bit the antithesis of the old motto, "use the least aggressive cleaner to get the job done."

With regard to tire cleaning: what's really needed to properly clean a tire is a relatively high pH cleaner, which would include Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner, D143, or most all purpose cleaners. A product that is pH neutral, like this DUB Wheel Cleaner or Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner won't do anywhere near as good a job cleaning tires. In fact, even an acidic wheel cleaner like Wheel Brightener or Hot Rims Chrome Wheel Cleaner don't do anywhere near as good a job as an alkaline cleaner like those mentioned above will. Such is the chemistry of cleaning different types of "dirt" off of different types of surfaces.
