  • Ultimate compound then gold class wax

I use clay bar and then ultimate compound on a 20 year old red Lexus SC400 original paint and removed most of the swirls marks. I am really happy with the results, now should I go straight to the gold class wax or is there another step I should do before the wax, ie should I go to some sort of polish?

The red colour really pops and when I got a chance I will put the car in the sun and post up a picture.

I would go with Ultimate Polish before wax. why? Polish will re-define your paint and remove any fine swirls. When done with Polish then do your wax. just my 2 cents worth.

      ^^ Mark58 is right.

Ultimate Polish is an optional step in between the compounding/defect removal stage and the protection stage. Ultimate Polish usually provides a bigger difference on darker colored cars. It tends to rejuvenate the color and make the reflection deeper and glossier. Since your car's paint is red, I would suggest using Ultimate Polish. After this, go straight to your favorite wax.

Please share with us if you noticed a difference in applying Ultimate Polish between your application of Ultimate Compound and Gold Class Wax.

Or just wax this time, and then Ult. Polish and wax next time.

I just used Ult. Polish today for the first time today on a silver car, and while the difference was very subtle, it did help with the glossiness and clarity of the paint. I would definitely use it. Gold Class is great wax too.

We, as in Australia does not carry the ultimate polish just yet - I've been looking around at my local auto shops and no one carries them.

I've just Gold Class wax and the Lexus looks amazing!!.

Well, if you think another round of UC will help next time, you could UC and wax again.

Otherwise, you'll want to look for something milder for regular use in the future. If no Ult. Polish, SwirlX would be an option.

Grip, can you get M205 in your area? If so, we're pretty confident that it can help you take that SC to the next level, especially if working with a DA buffer. Having said that, though, we must say your car looks truly amazing - really hard to believe that it's 20 years old with original paint!!!

                      Hi Grip,

Meguiars Australia (Motoractive), do carry Ultimate Polish. They're in Silverwater if you are nearby, or call them and ask who is stocking the product near you.

If not (as suggested) SwirlX or M205 (or indeed M07) would also be a great choice.

                        ...Nice reflections btw...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I brought some ultimate polish ($30.00 AUD a bottle which was a little bit rich) and applied it on the Lexus. I notice that it darken the red ever so slightly and then a layer of Gold Class liquid wax.

I saw the Ultimate Liquid wax on the shelf but I'm not going to pay $65.00 AUD for a bottle! Stuff that I'm going on line and buying my stuff there at a 1/3 of the price.

The Gold Class liquid wax give it a nice warm glow to the paint job.
