  • M16 vs. NXT Tech Wax 2.0 - A Comparison

So I applied M16 MIRROR GLAZE Professional Paste Wax to my black 2008 Honda Civic coupe for the first time today. This is the first time I've ever applied M16 to any car and it's also the first time I've used a paste on this Civic. Here are my first thoughts:

    • First look: I do like the initial look of NXT Tech Wax 2.0 better. NXT seems to "clean up" the paint a bit more and therefore gives a greater sense of "depth." I do, however, know that M16 is what's called a pure wax: It is just that - purely wax. NXT is a synthetic wax that actually contains other polishing and cleaning agents. This tiny cleaning ability of NXT is what I believe has me liking it's initial apperance better. I'm still curious to see who wins in the durability department though!
    • Ease of application: To my surprise, M16 was much easier for me to apply. Granted, I applied it by hand vs. my usual DA application of NXT but it went on like butter and it even wasn't THAT hard to remove. In felt like I had to toil a lot less applying M16 by hand than NXT by DA, although my hand application may not technically be as effective. Keep in mind that I also applied it correctly: like a lactose intolerant applying butter on a piece of toast; VERY thin!
    • Ease of removal: As I said above, I found M16 wipe-off to be a lot easier than what people act like. In fact, many times I got M16 on some of my rubber/plastic trim and I was easily able to get it off since I was applying a thin layer.
    • Durability: I can't yet comment, it has been less than a day. The good news is that it rained today (only a detailer would say this, yes?!?!!?) so I can get a first glance at the beading action and how it holds up against the rain. In fact, my neighbors were freaking out wondering why I was washing and waxing earlier until I finally told them I was trying a new wax. I'm sure some of you guys can relate!

In conclusion, I liked the actual application process of M16 better. It was a simple twist of the pad in the tin, it went on super easily, and then it was ready for removal in about 5 mins. This made the application process feel like a breeze. However, I have not yet determined whether or not I like the actual results of the wax. As I wrote above, I like the initial look of NXT but my actual overall rating of the wax will depend on the durability and subsequent appearance as well. I will report back soon!

      Cool, thanks for the review!

Let us know what happens in the durability department

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

My fav is still M16 over NXT. Especially on darker paint I've really noticed the cling wrap look that NXT can leave. I find that a coat of M16 over it is a perfect compliment.

I agree, with a correctly prep'ed paint and the correct application of M16, it's not difficult at all to apply and remove. Granted, apply it too think and you _will_ know.

I believe you will be pleasantly surprised about the durability of M16.

NXT 2.0 is pretty durable. I have not waxed my car for more than three (3) months. Yet, the paint still sheds and beads water like crazy. The key is, though, you must wash your vehicle at least once a week.

I wash my car once a week, even though I use my garage.

Subscribed. Interested in seeing the results. I just did my red metallic daily driver with M16 over the weekend and it looks great! For a wax with a reputation for durability, it sure is easy to work with. As much as I truly like M26 for looks on my occasionally-driven El Camino, it doesn't seem to be durable enough for my DD.

I'd like to see a comparison between Collinite 476s and M16. Both are superb waxes, especially for the upcoming winter months. I just applied a coat of 476s to my Volvo a couple weeks back. Unbelievable beading.

M16 and Collinite 476s might be considered "old school" waxes. Both are reputed to enjoy excellent durability. Another once popular old school wax that perhaps should be included is One Grand Blitz. One doesn't hear a lot about it in recent years. My favorite old school wax is Harly Wax. It may not be the most durable wax, but it provides a warm, balanced shine and is easy to work with.

Re: M16 vs. NXT Tech Wax 2.0 - A Comparison

Two days ago, I washed my car – with Ultimate Wash and Wax – purposely for the first time since I waxed the car on the 20th of last month. Since then, it has rained on the car perhaps 5 times, but other than that, weather and air quality around here hasn’t been too bad. My findings? M16 has done a phenomenal job thus far. The wash was very easy, dirt and water sheeted right off, and the M16 also made it difficult for water spots to form on the car during those rainy days. Today I was easily able to tell that there was an ample amount of wax still on the car due to water beading up while I was washing. In fact, M16 stuck out more to me than NXT 2.0 has in the past. I also noticed that although my car was dirty, it was still very good-looking and shiny, due in part to M16. So which wax do I like most? NXT Tech Wax 2.0 or M16? I’m going to go with neither – they are just different. Having said this, here are my final recommendations and findings:

                    NXT Tech Wax 2.0
                    • Use this if you are new to car waxing.
                    • Use this if you are new to machine waxing.
                    • Will be slightly easier to apply by machine since it is a liquid.
                    • Has cleaning ability, oils, and conditioners that contribute to an overall better initial look.
                    • Since it has cleaning ability, it can also remove some very, very minor defects that M16 can’t.

#16 Mirror Glaze Professional Paste Wax
                    • Requires slightly more extensive knowledge to apply/remove properly; easier to screw up application or removal.
                    • For this reason, this wax is best not used if it is your first time ever waxing a car.
                    • Can be easier to apply by hand than NXT 2.0 for those who do know how to properly apply the wax. This is because the layer required for application is so thin, it is actually very easy to apply and work with.
                    • Has that classic carnauba feel and when it dries, you know the paint is protected.
                    • Beads water and resists dirt very well.
                    • A good winter wax since it protects the paint so well.
                    • I like the end look better than NXT 2.0.
                    • Since this is a pure wax, it is best applied to a very clean and detailed paint surface that has been properly prepped (clayed, polished, etc…). If there are many blemishes in the paint surface that you cannot remove due to time or labor constraints, go with NXT 2.0 since it has that cleaning ability and extra additives.
                    • Last but not least, a big plus, if you can get ahold of a can of M16, is that it will last you for a TON of waxes. NXT 2.0 will last you a while too, but with M16, I'm talking hundreds of waxes.

This concludes my review and comparison of M16 and NXT 2.0 for now. I'll keep you guys updated with how long the M16 lasts before I need to re-apply. Once again, I didn't post pictures because I didn't feel that photos would really contribute much to the review. Photos can only do so much and photos of my car with M16 on it vs. those with NXT 2.0 on it would likely look nearly identical.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is still produced...just not sold in the US anymore due to VOC laws.
