I used UQD for the first time today and I must say I am impressed both with the shine it creates and the smell of NXT. However, I went to Kragen to drop off some old oil and I saw that the car already had dust on it. What should I do so it won't attract as much dust? I don't want to keep using the detailer over and over if the same thing is going to keep on happening.

Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
Every time you rub your car you create static electricity which attacts dust. One way to stop this is to earth your car and an easy way to do this is to attach an old jumper cable to your exaust pipe. sounds strange but this could solve your problem.

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
Ok here's an update. I just waxed a few days ago and have been applying UQD every day but the dust still gets attracted. This is really starting to bother me. Could it be because the paint is black and it's more noticeable?

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
I'm not sure of the air quality out in Nevada, but that can have a major effect on the dust attraction. Some areas are just dustier than others.
Black paint will make imperfections more noticeable.
If you can find it, I believe MPPP has some static repellant qualities.Chris

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
This is kind of out of the box thinking but try and follow it. We have a 3 car garage and two cars go in it. One is dark colored and one is light colored. If I use the same sealant and they both get washed on the same day, I still notice more dust on the dark colored car. Its simply the color of the car. But then again the fact that you are seeing more dust means that the wax is doing its job, keeping things on top of the paint (i.e. water beading). For one day, don't UQD the car and just look and the dust will probably be the same...if you just washed it, your used to looking at a completely dirt/dust free finish so even the slightest bit of dust stands out.
I don't know if that makes any sense but its my thoughts...

The air quality actually isn't that bad. I think it might be the sand and dirt still left on the roads from all the snow we got. If that's the case I guess I can't do much but keep QDing it until it rains and drives all the stuff off the roads.

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
I really think it's just the color. Dark cars show more imperfections. I have both white and black and the white looks clean almost all the time even though I spend more time on the black car.
It's just the nature of black, look great when clean and looks really horrible when dirty. If I could I'd wrap it in glad wrap to keep it looking new all the timeThe Best Last Step, is the step backwards you take to admire your work!

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
My 911 is Seal Gray and after using the detailer I hardly see any dust. Most likely it's the color of your ride. My daily driver was Black and oh boy did dust show up seconds after washing/waxing it.

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
This is just a FWIW
(For what it's worth)
If you were to strip a car hood bare of any products, and then only apply a wax or paint sealant or two or three, (if you're testing), to only specific, taped off small sections, and then watched these sections over time, it appears as though the sections that have something applied to them will always attract more dust then the surrounding areas. It doesn't really matter what the brand or type of wax or paint protectant is that you apply, seems to work like this no matter what the brand.
This could be because of the product or because you rubbed these sections and increased their static charge? Don't know, just a guess after testing different products and making observations over time.
Point being is it might not matter whose quick detailer, or spray wax liquid or paste wax or any type of paint protectant or sealant, etc., no matter what you apply and wipe off may tend to create a surface that will attract dust more so than if you just washed it and dried and then did nothing.
Of course, doing nothing isn't the best way to maximize the appearance of your car's paint, so it could be a necessary evil.
Don't know, just a guess and an observation.

Re: Ultimate Quick Detailer attracts dust?
After you wash it once or twice things will return to normal. Of course, around here after washing it twice, it's time to wax again.
The dry rubbing -- wax removal and removal of UQD are leaving a static charge. Water will nutralize that, just don't go nuts with the drying towels.
The idea of grounding the vehicle while waxing it makes some sense, except I know I can stand barefooted on the ground and rub a baloon on my tee shirt and it will stick to my head.I'm not sure grounding will eliminate the difference in electrostatic charge. Any physicists among us will know the answer.
