  • when did NXT wax change?

Just found out in MOL UK that the formula for NXT Tech wax was changed sometime last year, with no advertising or anything.

a Member of MOL UK has been trialing it and he is blown away by it, its now going to be his go to LSP( and he's tried every type of wax and sealant there is)

    when did this change?

      Hi Alex,

I just posted this over on the U.K. Meguiar's forum,

      Hi all,

I've read through this thread and tomorrow I'll be in the office for a meeting on another subject, but while I'm there I'll get the complete skinny on the formula change but from what I have been told just now by our head of R&D, is what you have is the new formula, but it was new in January 2005 to meet V.O.C. regulations.

R&D has also verified that when they reformulated the product to be V.O.C. compliant they were also able to create an even better formula.

I'll post more when I find out more, but that's what I know for now.

Julie is quoted as saying that the Paste and Liquid versions were available for the same amount of time. That is certainly not the case here in the US, where that paste came out about a year after the liquid. Maybe that is true for the UK though.

I would like to hear more about the new version of NXT. Is it available in liquid and paste form? How does it compare and contrast to #21?

An improved NXT was bound to happen, since #21 has been so successfully received, to which NXT was compared.

I have the 'old' NXT and #21. I guess many have been unknowingly using the re-formulated NXT - those who've bought it after early 2005.

              thanks for the info Mike

it may have been a case that it was a way of off-loading the non-VOC compliant stock by having it as european stock and now its gone, we get the newer( one you've had for a while) NXT.

In my local Halfords( UK version of AutoBacs) they have both colours of the NXT wash.

So did the color change with the new NXT? If so, what is the color?

As much as I would like to try this "new formulation", I've been so pleased with 20 and 21; that I just can't justify getting NXT again. Although, I do have a few sample packs laying around. Hmmmm...

Just to chime in on this... I was in meetings all day and that's why I'm posting so late to this thread...

I have not heard back from the Product Manager for the NXT line yet as everyone was involved in a number of different meetings today and our Corporate e-mail was down for the last three days so everyone is busy playing catch-up.

I did talk to R&D and to Marketing and unless I'm told otherwise tomorrow, here's the skinny...

The new formula Julie shared with some members of the U.K. forum is indeed a new, updated formula, but as of this post, and again, unless I hear differently tomorrow, this formula change was the formula change that was enacted at the end of 2004 to make NXT V.O.C. compliant in the strictest market in the U.S. and that's in Orange County, California. I'm not an expert on World Wide V.O.C. regulations, but my guess is at this time is that if it meets Orange County EPA regulations, it meets or exceeds all other regulations.

I spoke with our head chemist directly about this formula change and he told me that when they reformulated NXT Tech Wax to make it V.O.C. compliant, the changes improved the formula in a number of different way, specifically, application, appearance and wipe-off.

Meguiar's chemists update all of our product formulas in all categories whenever new technology is developed, we don't alway do a good job of announcing this and often times the changes are simply rolling changes.

Hope this helps... If I find out anything new or different that what I've already posted I'll be sure to update this thread tomorrow.

                      Thanks Mike,

from what i can tell the European VOC type rules are slightly different, we can still get M16 with no trouble, but we can't get anything that comes in Aerosol form.

                      Thanks again

As far as V.O.C. regulations go, the thing to find out is who has the strictest regulations and I don't know this for sure but I'll check today, regardless here's how that works for all of you who might be interested.

Here in the U.S., the strictest V.O.C. mandatory limits are in Orange County, California, I've been told that 1/10 of the U.S. population lives in Southern California, and with this high of a concentration of people it may have something to do with the stricter control over pollutants, perceived or real.

Point being, if the U.S. EPA regulations for V.O.C.'s are stricter in Orange County, California than anywhere in the world, (And I don't know that they are but I will find out today), then if you manufacture your products to meet or beat the limits set by these regulations, then your products will meet or beat any regulations in the world.

It will be interesting to find out if in fact the U.S does lead the world in limiting the amount of V.O.C's allowed in car care products in specific and all manufactured goods in general, as it relates to being environmentally responsible for rest of the entire planet.

I'll make a phone call after the office opens in Irvine sometime after 8:00am PST today and post back here what I find out.

I was wondering the same thing. Also was the paste reformulated or was it already the new formulation?

I'd suspect since the change would have been in effect by January 2005, anything now on the shelves would be the VOC compliant version.
