  • Microfiber Quik Detail Pad X3060 ~ Review

Here is a quick review of the Microfiber Quik Detail Pad. I picked up a couple extras so this is the first time I have had a chance to use them.

    First Impressions:
Its packaged in the standard cardboard, works well. When I purchased a couple from Advance Auto I did notice there were a couple there that were very dirty, I would never buy them. Maybe a little plastic over them to help protect them until they are sold, I think others have suggested this.

It is very soft and comfortable on your hand. The pad on the inside seemed a little stiff to me.

    Application/Use:
I used it with Last Touch Spray Detailer. Misted the LT on the truck and wiped with the pad. It worked very well, removed the product with ease and left a nice streak free finish.

    Overall Impression:
This is a very good product, makes the application of a spray detailer even easier. It is much easier to hold than a towel for this use. Seems very gentle on the painted surface.

I felt the pad needed a little more flex. The box on my truck has a lot of curves, the pad didn't form to the curves as well as I would like. Maybe over time it will "break in" and flex.

I can't believe I waited this long to use it.

I am not sure how to clean this, those who have them, do you wash them in the washing machine? or by hand?

I will update the post in a few months and let you know how its holding up.

unfortunately, this is one product i can do without. at least with a supreme shine microfiber, you can fold into quarters and have many different clean sides to wipe with.

They DO come with a plastic sleeve on them, but they frequently are lost in the stores. I wash these with my other microfiber products in the washing machine.

I didn't know that, never seen them in stores with a sleeve over them, I suppose they get removed when the shelves are stocked.

Brandon, great write up and now I'll add my thoughts. I have only been a hard core deatiling enthusiast since June so take this for what it's worth. When I first got started I fell in love with the things. I think I have about 12-15 of them now. I have to be honest I have a love/hate relationship with them and I'll explain my thoughts as thoroughly as I can. This will be long.

OK. When first getting started detailing I hand washed everything in high concentrations of DAWN & water every time I finished using any applicator, towel, or MF. After the day was done I would then take all these fabrics in to the washing machine and wash in warm water with woolite then dry on delicate in the dryer. Worked very well, or so I thought. After a couple of months of doing this I noticed that the QD Pads started getting very, very flimsy and flat. I figured it came with the terriotry and delt with it. There were still usable. Anyway, I started buying more and adding these to the collection. I started skipping the hand wash with dawn and started doing the following. I would, and still do BTW, pre-treat my fabrics with either APC or Simple Green. Throw them in the Dirty Rag bin and once I had enough for a load, separate the MFs from the Terry's and machine wash the same way I used to with Woolite and Dry in the Dryer, same as before. I find this method is very easy, and the end result seems identical to the cleaning I previously got from the hand Washing along with the Machine washing but am now skipping the hand washing. The newer QD Pads I have, to date, have not strated going flimsy and weak like the ones previously hand washed with dawn. My suspicion was that the high concentration of Dawn was breaking down the inner sponge material.

OK. Having said all that. I did have one of the flimsy one's break a seam about a month ago. This broken down sponge material came out in the dryer and got all over every MF in the load. Little clumps of sponge material all over everything. I picked it off the best I could and used the fabrics the same as I always did. Then I noticed with several of the other fabrics, when I was QDing I would see some immediate, very light miccro-marring. I could flip the pad or fabric and look and boom, there it would be, a little spec of sponge. Be cautious about broken seams once the sponge material starts breaking down.

For the QD pads that I have that I never hand washed, they are still holding up fine, They do soften up after repeated washings so that firmness will diminish.

Here recently, I have changed up a bit and started using the QD pads as well as the Supreme Shine MFs to QD. After I wash and I know the Truck is good and clean I will use a QD pad. This way I know I won't pick up much to risk micro-marring. BUT, if I have not washed or QDed for a couple of days. I dust the truck then will use a Supreme Shine instead. I fold it up and switch to a new side each couple of panels. Micro-marring seems to be reduced
          this way.

Don't mistake my enthusiasm for experience.
