  • Hello from Vienna, Austria

    Hi,

I'm new to Meguiars online. As requested I will introduce myself here.

My name is Alex, I'm 24. I live in Vienna (Austria, not the Vienna in US).

I drive a 2006 Volkswagen Phaeton as well as a Lancia Thesis. I started 2 years ago with detailing my cars. Before I used to drive through automatic car washes.

I didn't start, unlike most of you, with "over the counter", "everywhere availabe" products. (note: Meguiars is here in Austria, unlike the US, not an "over the counter" product, so unlike the US you can't just go to the mall and buy all the products. Meuiars is only available online, in one specialist car care shop and lately also in one automobile chain store.)

I started to wax my car with products from an english manufacturer, and I directly started with the full program. (2 Bucket wash, claying, precleaning, waxing.)
That has used to be a very time consuming job. Since I live in the city and I don't have a garage, I am forced to do all my detailing at the coin self wash places. This gives you a problem in summer - traditional natural ingridient waxes and precelaner tend to be very complicated to work with in direct sunlight. Another problem is, that you sweat through your shirt while working. But still, the end result - even though I have no chance to remove Swirls by hand, even not with Ultimate Compound - is worth all that. (Keep in mind, the Phaeton is about the size of an Audi A8! ). Unfortunally I can't machine polish neither at home or at the coin wash. But an battery powered drill (or 2) and the new Meguiars "turn your drill into a DA Polisher" might help me out with that.

Since longer I had an eye on the Meguiars Ultimate Range. You definitely caught my attraction with the very very sexy packaging.

So, about 1 week ago I finally bought Meguiars Ultimate Detailer and Meguiars Ultimate Quick wax. I stripped of all of the remaining last step products with an overdosed shampoo wash. :

Then I dried the car and shook the bottle of UQW.
Now I have to admit, that I never liked the feel of the spray on products. They have been either uncomfortable to spread (dragging the towel, not spreading evenly .....) or they tended to smear.

So I took a fresh Microfiber towel and sprayed the UQW onto the paint and spreaded it with the microfiber towel. That was the moment when my feel about Spray on products changed by 180 degrees.

UQW was so slick to spread with the MF towel and disappeared into the paint, left nothing else than a super slick and smooth surface.

I finished the whole car in about 15 Minutes. UQW does an absoulety perferct job in hiding fine swirls - before I thought it might be a bit marketing - but I was wrong. Much better than I ever expected by an 15 minute spray on wipe off product.

Finally the car has an amazing shine, and since the fine swirls are hidden - unlike with natural wax - the car looked like it just had been fresh painted! ::

So far, UQW has totally exceeded my expectations. I wouldn't have thought that UWQ is that good! So what do we learn from that? Don't judge before you have tried it yourself!

After the first short, non intense raindrops the beading is very nice, the drops from the hood just flew off while accelerating.

Meanwhile I bought a bottle of Ultimate Liquid Wax and Ultimate Polish. My finding with ULW is, that it left streaks, even though I applied it as thin as possible. And U Q W has a far better swil hiding than U L W in my opinion.

I might have to try U L W again, but I think I won't do it before fall or winter. You might as why? Because I like U Q W so much, I simply add one layer after each wash!

I think UQW might last at least one month in summer, when there is almost no rain. So for now, I will use UQW after each wash as paint protection, even though it's more ment to be a booster to the exisiting Ultimate Liquid or Paste Wax.

I already did a little durability test about 2 days after the first application of UQW. In order to apply ULW i wanted to strip off all of the remaining UQW. I tried to do so by using the shampoo wash of the coin wash - as well as the shampoo liquid that comes out of that brush. (I just held the brush above the paint to flush all of the sruface with that soap.) That soap used in coin wash, as far as I know, is pretty strong. But after that harsh treatment the UQW was still there! My excitement about UWQ just stepped on the highest level possible!
The only way I was able to remove it completely was with an very overdosed shampoo 2 bucket handwash. So I think, even though UQW is not meant to be an standalone product, it might hold up quiet a while. So if I use it in summer after every car wash (usually once a week - not later than 2 weeks) my paint will be protected quiet good. Unfortunately it's the wrong product for winter.

So let's give a quick summary about UQW:

    +my favorite spray wax
    +smells very nice
+can be applied in sun (big plus for me!)
    +spreads nicely
    +doesn't smear
    +nice beading
    +very good swirl hiding
+car just looks like it has been fresh painted

    - pricing in Austria. (I paid 21€ for one bottle - that's 27$), but on the other hand, it's absolutely worth it for me!

    Thanks for reading!
