  • Howdy - Me and my 69 GTO

Greetings from Garland (near Dallas) Texas.

What you're seeing is my 69 Pontiac GTO that I bought back when I was in college and drove for years. (I just turned 60). I did all the work on this car myself in my home garage, and it was "my first time".

I used all Mequiar's compounds (M105 and M205), and sanding/finishing discs on this car. I think it turned out ok for a first timer...

There's also about a 15 minute video that shows "most" of the project, if you've got the time and the interest.

Going into this project, I knew ZERO about anything having to do with body and paint work. I owe a lot to Kevin Tetz and his Paintucation videos, and his web forum for help and advice.

    Thanks for your time,

    Bear

Awesome car....what an investment! $$$$$ Nice work. Great video! Can I just suggest one simple thing? Clean and dress the tires. It will be like "icing on the cake"
    Black......the ONLY color!

Thanks SVT. You must be referring to the tires in the "first drive" video. Those were the 30 year old tires I had on the car while I was building it along with the original 14" wheels. Those wouldn't have been good for long.

It's sitting on 15's now and some fresh tires

        Great car and great work.

I also agree with the other person who said dressing on the tires will seal the deal.

Not sure where this photo is from but it highlights some of the tire dressing.
You don't have to make the tires look super wet and glossy, but a little dressing will bring the car to life and complete the job. IMO.
Often I put on the tire dressing and then use a paper towel to clean off excess so it doesn;t sling all over the car, this also helps reduce the amount of gloss. Which i prefer.

But honestly these are picky things because what you did already is amazing. The bottom up job is more than I could come close to handle.

From what I can see you did a great job. Especially for a first timer.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I was impressed with the pictures, then I saw there was a video and watched that. Great job! I admire your talent and your ability to stick to a long term project to the end!
