I have been a big fan/user of Meguiar's for over 20 years now. I have restored 6 cars over the last 30 year, 1979 Camaro RS, 1957 Chevy, 1936 Chevy, 1949 Dodge, 1957 Olds and my latest a 1963 Falcon Convertible. I do my own work from engine building to paint. I'm in no way a "professional", just a guy that enjoys this great hobby. Painting has always been my favorite part of the restoration. I have probably painted 20+ cars in my life most being collector and show cars. I love doing auto detailing and still do a few cars a year for friends.
My latest project, the 63 Falcon, Was a "drive while I restore" project. I did the engine & trans first, drove it for a few years fixing little things on the car until last year when I decided to fix all of the cancer and give it a fresh coat of paint. I did something a little different or crazy depending on how you look at it with the paint. Now before I explain, and before all of you painters have a melt down, I want to tell you this process does work and my final results speak for them self. I painted the car with a roller and acrylic enamel. I wanted to try it after reading the article in Hot Rod July 2007. I figured I have enough experiance that if I don't like the results I can spray it with single stage urethane. Here is the link to the paint forum I'm on showing step by step: http://rolledon.forummotion.com/t747-1963-ford-falcon
I used Meguiar's Ultimate compound, rotary, wool pad, 1800 RPM and Ultimate polish rotary, foam pad, 1500 RPM.
Can't figure out how to post pics but I will at a later time.
Thanks and look forward to learning more about detailing and paint restoration.
