  • Sup guys!

First off, im currently on an ipad, so i apologize in advance for some missing punctuation/caps.

Im new to detailing forums but not new to detailing. Im no expert. Im barely a novice. I do know though that im supposed to wash, clean, polish and then wax.

I was first introduced to detailing back when i bought my first car, a black 1990 Mustang GT. i got sideswiped by truck just 6 months in and when i looked at my car the day after picking it up from the bodyshop, it had crazy buffer marks all over the car!

Took it to a detailer that not only corrected the situation but improved it! He even explained to me what i needed to do on a regular basis to keep it looking slick. it did set me back several hundred so i made sure to upkeep my car.

Flash forward 10 yrs, i got a job with a 100 mile daily commute. I didnt want to add on so many miles to the stang so i got a used silver civic and kept the stang at my parents house. I ended up using the civic until i got married and when we bought our first car together, it was an opal blue Nissan Altima.

Both these cars were severely neglected polish/wax wise. I still washed them by hand every 2 to 3 weeks but since they were light colors, they looked decent enuf w/o the extra effort.

Well we recently got a new black Durango and ive been thinking about detailing stuff ever since!

I washed the Altima a few weeks ago and thought I would practice on it. I have always used Meguiars (still have a bottle and can of Deep Crystal. Do these go bad with time?) so i got some ultimate Compound and Polish. For the life of me, i couldnt remove all of the surface contaminents. I even tried an old green and white can of compound and all that did was leave big nasty swirls.

So i did a search and i ended up here on a thread about "clay". Hmm...whats this all about? I do recall seeing some clay products in the store but didnt pay much attention, passing it them off as gimics! Lol. I couldnt believe some clay could do all that was advertised so I tried the Meguiars kit.

Wow! I couldnt believe what i was seeing, hearing and feeling. How long has this technique been around to consumers?

Anyway, thats how i ened up here. Whew...that was difficult on a touch pad. Sorry its so winded!

    See you guys around!

Welcome and thanks for sharing your background story.

Keep looking around, there's heaps more to learn here!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

      Welcome to MOL!

Seems like clay is one of those things that most "consumers" still don't know about. I'm amazed how many people I talk to that think they know about detailing and have never heard of using clay.
