Hi new member Spiney from Reading PA here. I go by Spiney because I've had 3 back surgeries and 1 neck surgery most with hardware Fusion. So if anyone else has those issues I more than understand. I cruise the car forums at night because the pain keeps me up. I'm on vampire time. Anyway after a long lapse of not having a cool, fun car, I got a belated 50th birthday present. a cherry 96 SVT Cobra Mustang Hi-gloss black paint, black leather interior. One of the selling points for me was the previous owner treated it like a baby. It was kept in a heated garage and the finish was kept almost showroom new. There are some nics and chips but for 15 years old, they are minor. When I asked him how he maintained it he laughed as he rattled off a long list of Maguiar's products. So wanting to keep it in the same condition I've stuck with those. I was also informed by my trusted mechanic that it is not a good idea to change up detailing products. So I was off to Pep Boys since they seemed to have the greatest selection of Maguiar's and other mfg's products. So I'm here looking for the advice that all black car owners are looking for, How do I best get and maintain a great deep shine.
I've had several people who are more experienced than me look at the car and tell me the paint is in great shape, and that I should not need to clay it. So I bought Gold class wash, all of the microfiber mitts, towels etc, Ultimate Polish Pre-wax, Ultimate Gold class Carnuba liquid wax, Scratch X 2.0, Ultimate quick detailer both the Maroon and the Black Bottle, Hot Shine Chrome Polish, and not sure of the tire dressing it's in a purple spray bottle. It's also covered when not driven by a CoverCraft NOAH cover until an old dead 63 Pontiac Catalina leaves our garage, hopefully this week.
I'm having an issue with the Ultimate Polish that I posted in the consumer products section. and I'll probably call tech support in the morning on that.
Other than that, once I learn how to polish the cars correctly we also have a 98 deep green Volvo V70 in need of TLC, a 90 ford Ranger that was repainted in 2007 and I never waxed it
, and my Mother in law has 2 Toyotas a Camry and a Corolla both desperately in need of cleaning and protection. So I hope to learn the proper techniques here. My next purchase will be a DAP because with my injuries, and now added to that Tennis Elbow waxing by hand is just too strenuous. That's it, I look forward to learning. One last thing since I bought the car I'm now addicted to all of the great shows on the Speed Channel and HDTV. I had 5 other mustangs up until my daughter was born in 85, but it's been a long time suffering in practical cars and great to have a fun one back again. Spiney-Dave
