  • Greeting from Thailand & a question about UQW

Hi, although I have just registered with Meguiar's Online, I can't say that I'm totally new to this website as I have come in to check out you guys' highly informative forum quite often. Now I have got a question of my own so it's time to become visible.

I have read one of the thread commented by Meguiar's Admin about the Ultimate Quik Wax, saying that, after rinsing the shampoo with a steady stream of water (to minimized the amount of water left on the surface), right then one CAN go ahead and spray UQW on that wet surface and use the Water Magnet towel to wipe dry both the water left on the surface and UQW at the same time. And the result will be the same as wiping dry first then apply UQW afterwards.

If this work, it would be an awesome time-saving trick, but I can't help concerning about several issues:
    1. Will the UQW get diluted by the water on the surface and becomes less effective in adhering to the paint?
    2. Since it's inevitable that some area will be wetter than the others, will the UQW be spread evenly across the surface versus wipe dry the water first and then apply UQW?

    Your clarification is highly appreciated!

Okay, we couldn't talk about it before you joined, but now that you have we can. It's....MM. Meguiar's Magic. Welcome to MOL.

Sorry, just kidding. Not kidding about the welcome, as we're glad you're joining into the conversations. MM might not completely explain how UQW works.

For me at least, I go over the car three times when drying. Once with an Absorber and then with a waffle weave towel to catch the remaining water droplets. Its just before I do the waffle weave wipe I lightly mist UQW and only side, front, rear, or top at a time. Lastly I make a final pass with the best microfiber I own.

I have to be very careful not to mar the surface while drying and not to leave water droplets as we have hard water and it will spot. I'm not sure why the water doesn't dilute the UQW, but it may. And it seems uniform if I only lightly mist the UQW. Someone more experienced than I will be along soon to adequately answer your questions.

Thanks for the welcome, wifpd4! I have great results with the UQW after wiping the water dry first, but just want to know if I can save some time here. My wife thinks I spend too much time with the car already I directed the question to the Detailing 101 section below so that it will be less mess, I guess:
