Been lurking here for a month or two, ever since I bought a used 2008 Charger R/T, black. It's the nicest car I have ever had but I am finding that more you love your car the more you may obsses over it. Running it down to the car wash place just is not doing it for me. It drives me nuts after spending money to have it done only to have it done poorly. So I am here.
I am going down tomorrow to round up the bare minimum of washing material. Bare minimum as I have a list of things that I need to do and money is tight. I have already DIY the plugs (all 16 of them), brake pads, and synthetic oil. I wish I could just go and get everything but the more I read the more clueless I feel. I have never worried about my paint before so I know next to nothing other than watching the videos and stumbling around in this forum. So it's one thing at a time.
I have some swirls that apparently only I notice. My girlfriend keeps asking me "what swirls? I never noticed them" but of course they stand out to me like a sore thumb. So I am looking at getting the following...
Gold Class Car Wash
A microfiber wash mitt
A microfiber waffle weave drying towel
and if I have any $ left
A clay bar kit
As stated before I know nothing of detailing. I have read something about foam and microfiber applicators but don't know what they are for or even what they are.
After I get a wash done and another paycheck rolls in I will deal with the paint polish and the wax.
I guess I am just looking for some pointers and or some encouragement as I am feeling a little lost and overwhelmed. I also live in Houston, have no garage so I don't even have a good place to do this. It's bloody hot and very sunny down here.
