Re: cleaning wool and foam polishing pads
While the newer Meguiars Soft Buf foam pads are machine washable, I have found that machine washing does not always effectively remove residue wax, or sometimes it's not economic to run the washer for 1-2 pads. I have never used wool pads for waxing and I would not recommend it. But this is the method I use for foam pads:
Soak the foam pads in warm water mixed with Dawn dishwashing soap for about an hour. Then gently work the face of your pads with your thumbs for a minute or two. Compress the pads (one by one) under the water with the flat of your palms a few times.
Drain the wash water and refill with warm water without the Dawn soap. Compress the pads again. The water should cloud up a bit. Compress the pads once more to drain the excess rinse water from your pads.
Place your pads inside your washing machine and set it for spin cycle only. After the spin, I place my pads between two terry towels and compress once more. Then I set the pads to air dry for a day or two. You can also toss them in the dryer (again, the newer Soft Buf 2.0 pads) but use the setting for air dry (no heat).
