  • New From Houston, TX

Hi all, I'm new to the site from Houston, TX. I have been into cars for a long time and have always been into finding ways to modify my cars to my taste and keeping them as clean as possible. I'm here because I have become very interested in improving my detailing skills lately and I figure this is the place to learn. Here are some of my past cars:

2002 Toyota Celica GT: Intake, Header, Exhaust, 75-shot, etc...

2002 Toyota MR-S: This car had quite a bit of work done to it. Along with a friend I took out the original motor and installed a motor/transmission from a 2005 Lotus Elise along with many other suspension/motor upgrades. It was by far my favorite car.

2008 Subaru WRX: Current project car. Right now the car only has an intake, turbo-back exhaust, and a tune. Future plans include a 20G turbo and E85.

I don't have any pics of the Lexus just because it's only my daily driver and nothing at all has been done to it.

Anyways, I hope to learn some new techniques here and eventually, to contribute as well.

Also, a little about my current techniques:

    1. Wash with microfiber towels and Meguir's wash
    2. Allow car to dry
    3. Clay with Meguir's smooth surface clay kit
    4. Wax with Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0

The only thing I'm not sure of is what to use on the black plastic surfaces that tend to go gray, any suggestions? Also, I'd like to get better at swirl removal, so next time I am going to use a polish after the clay/before the wax. I do everything by hand with no tools. If anybody sees anything I should be doing differently I would appreciate it.

Welcome to Meguiar's Online. Sounds like you know a basic wash and wax procedure, down pat. Good to see another TX guy on here! Nice rides btw...how much did that WRX run you?

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm gonna pick up some Ultimate Protectorant for my next wash if it ever stops raining here in houson, lol.

As far as the WRX goes, I was able to get a pretty good deal due to the fact that nobody buys them in Houston. The car stickered at $26,400 and I purchased it for $20,600 brand new. After spending another $900 on the modifications and tuning it myself it ran a 13.4@101, so I figure not a bad start for the money spent. I'm looking at rescaling my injectors right now for E85 so I can up the boost to around 25psi and if I can do that I should be in the 12's for under $1000 in modifications. But really, I'm here to learn how to clean my Lexus better since I don't really care how the WRX looks.
