  • Newbee with questions

Im a newbee with a black Z06. I drive it frequently and I am starting to have very light scratches. I am assuming that if I use colorx followed by NXt it should yield great results. The question is should I apply both by hand? The two tools I have to apply the products are my hand and an orbital buffer from the store. I will be getting a DA later down the road.

Is the colorx alone good or should I coat it with the NXT?

Sorry for all the dumb questions.

    Re: Newbee with questions

    Welcome, triche.

Black cars are wonderful, but they sure can be a pain to care for, can't they?

Take a look at this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

You can use the orbital you bought to apply and remove wax, but do not expect it to remove any swirls or scratches. I gave my orbital to GoodWill. I think you'll find that you'll have more success with hand application.

If you really want to remove scratches, you'll need to invest in a DA polisher, with appropriate pads and polishes. That can be a pretty hefty investment. I suggest that you first try the routine outlined in the article and see what kind of results you get.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,

      Re: Newbee with questions

New Corvettes are notorious for having very hard paint. While we generally don't like to make such broad generalizations, we don't know of anyone who's found one with soft paint. Yet.

Applied by hand any product could be challenged by your paint, but ColorX is an excellent choice for an all in one type product. You may find better results by using Ultimate Compound instead, especially if you really want to eliminate swirls. Once you acquire a D/A buffer, stick with the UC and you should be able to produce a brilliant, high clarity finish.
