Hi, I'm an old motor head from NY. Finally bought a Z06, all black, 2007/8. Last year some jerk keyed the rear quarter panel of the car. Deep and long. I am trying to repaint it myself. I sanded down the area where the gouge was. I then lightly sanded the panel (rear part of the car above the left rear wheel.) Then I wet sanded it to smooth it out. Then I applied black primer to get an even coat. Wet sanded that. Then I applied the black paint in the color key to match my car (GM 001, Black). Then I lightly wet sanded that. Then I applied clear coat, then used a rubbing compound with an orbital polisher, then I waxed. Its great EXCEPT, no matter how hard I try I can't get the wet shiny look the rest of the car has. The paint is smooth as silk but completely flat? What am I doing wrong? Am I not applying enough paint. I applied one coat of primer. Then three light coats of black paint using the Dupli-Color spray cans. It simply dries flat and the first time I polished etc. I went right through the color. Redid it and was more careful but still, everything comes up flat. Help, please. Thanks all.
