  • Bought My First Black Car

    Hi everyone,

I just picked up a new 2009 Camry Hybid. It is Black and beautiful . I noticed it already has light swirl marks in the clearcoat as received from the dealer.

I came across MOL looking for a way to get rid of them and keep from getting more. I'm hoping to find some tips and tricks that won't require me having polished through the clearcoat in a couple of years.

Great purchase on the Camry. They are quite luxurious little cars. Welcome to the site as well! I would start off reading the stickies. They have a lot of great information.

Your just a hop skip and a jump from Meguiars HQ, 17991 Mitchell S, in Irvine.
They have an "open garage" on Thursday evenings. They can evaluate your swirls and tell you what to do.

Mike has a thread to sign up for the garage.

Re: Bought My First Black Car

Just to note... most daily drivers with a clear coat are always going to have some level of swirls as clear coat paints swirl and scratch easily.

It's possible to remove all the swirls and maintain a swirl free finish but it will mean always paying very careful attention to how the car is "touched" after you initially remove all the swirls.

Since daily drivers see a lot of wear and tear over time you will see the swirls show up again over time, so it's important to have realistic expectations for clear coated daily drivers especially clear coated black cars.

If you think you want to make polishing paint and maintaining a show car finish for this car your new hobby then we can show you how, if you think you want a more simple approach to just doing a good job of maintaining the paint to keep the car looking good then keep it simple and use a quality car wash like Gold Class Car Wash or NXT Car Wash and then apply a coat or two of NXT Tech Wax or our M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax and maintain this coating of wax over the life of the car.

                            KISS

                            Keep it Simple Simon
