    HI
I'm here because i bought a black pontiac 2006 G6 rental car. It is seriously scratched. I think their carwash was made of wood sticks. Ive tried rubbing compound, polishing compound...the scratches are crazy long and all over. any tips much appreciated.

Can you post some pictures of the car and the problems you are experiencing?

You'll want to read these first, to get a good understanding of the process...

        That's funny!

I think you also sent me an e-mail about this car over the weekend? If so, sorry for not getting back to you yet, usually teach a class all day Saturday and take Sunday off, then send everyone with e-mail questions back to the forum.

If this rental car is seriously scratched up you need to decide how badly you want the swirls and scratches gone, if you really want to clean up the paint job then you want to invest in a dual action polisher like our G110 and let it do the work for you. Read this comment from a forum member who attended our class this last Saturday,

Anyway, the machine is really the way to go and compared to the cost of the car, the cost of your time etc., it's the best bang for you buck to actually remove the swirls out of the paint as your hand is never going to be as powerful or effective.

If you want to do all the work by hand then wash and clay the car, then get some ScratchX and start rubbing out small sections, about a foot squared or smaller, and rub out each of these sections once or twice and then after finishing a small section, move on to the next section and overlap your sections. This step, the cleaning step will take the longest as it is this step your removing a little paint and that's how you remove scratches you remove a little paint.

        Then polish and wax.

Someone already included some links to teach you how to clean paint, i.e. remove swirls and scratches by hand, so read those and then get out into your garage and get to work!
