  • cleaning off Show Car Glaze #7

    Hi
I have used Meguiar's products (Fine-Cut Cleaner #2 and Show Car Glaze #7 on my guitar. Having developed some scratches and scuffs requiring repair with lacquer, I want to be sure of an absolutely clean surface to which the new lacquer will adhere. What can I use to be sure all traces of the Meguiar's products are removed until the surface is repaired and I can polish the guitar again.

It may be good to look into the Mequairs Guita Care products, sold by Fender I belive..

RE: cleaning off Show Car Glaze #7

      Hi glimpy,

Both products are "paintable" or "body shop safe", so they can be painted over with no problem with paint adhering to the surface. I hope this helps.

        Thanks.

Knowing that these products are paint-friendly certainly heps. Probably just a cleaning with a relatively benign solvent will be all I need to do to prepare my surface.

          Hi glimpy,

          Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I think any wax and grease remover sold at a PBE store would be sufficient, you should also plan on scuffing the finish with some sandpaper.

Here's a link that shows you how to find a PBE store. After locating one, go to the paint department and tell the paint mixer what you're working on and he should be able to help you select the correct wax and grease remover for use with your guitar.

            Thanks for the good info

Mike, thanks for the great explanation. I'll have to do some searching as Meguiar's dealer locater shows nothing at all in my area. This will mean a road trip to the big city as soon as I can strap Granny to the rocker in back of the pickup truck.

This is where the third method in the link I provided will often help you find Meguiar's products. Remember, if you can find a PBE store that carries just one Meguiar's product, if you ask they can order you in anything you're looking for.
