  • Microfiber 6" Cutting Pad Delaminating

Purchased a few 6" microfiber cutting pads from Autogeek recently and after 2 uses the backing is separating from the foam. I had thought this issue was solved from the first gen pads but I guess not. If anyone could assist in the matter I would appreciate it. Thanks!

    jvs1991,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Please give our Customer Care Center a call at (800) 347-5700. If you can have the batch code and pictures available when you call that would be helpful.

Did you wash them after the 2 times you used them? When you do rinse them really well and put them MF side down to dry so that the water and cleaning solution do not seep into the backing side of the pad and degrade the glue. Just a tip for next time.

I had the same issue however i noticed if the backing plate is bigger than the pad itself you are gonna expect this kind of trouble.

Ind seco d place if you wash the pad with heavy soap and you sink it on the black side if you dont clean all the soap before it you will remove all the glue and then experience this.

What i did was use the pressure washer and clean the mf with just that pure water.

After that dry them vertical and no issues until now.

And since im in Mexico i had no chance to call for warranty, so i used some glue and the are back in charge again!.

Nope the backing plate was correct size. Washed with a MF detergent, then ran under water to make sure all soap was out.

I had this same issue, called customer service and they agreed to send a replacement. My question is how long does that usually take? On Mon. it will be two weeks since I called.

Usually a couple days but I was told they are waiting for a new shipment of pads to come in so it may be a bit longer.

                  CCC4me,

Thank you for your patience. jvs1991 is correct that we were waiting for a new supply of DA Microfiber pads to arrive. I am not sure why you were not informed of this when contacting us but 2 weeks ago is right about the time we ran out of stock so that could be the confusion. The good news is they just arrived so we will be shipping your pads today by FedEx. I would expect 2-3 days to get to Utah from our California office.

Also have the same problem. Kind of a bummer because I was told the Meguiars version did not do this.

I had this same problem on other branded MF pads.

The most surprising part is that this MF pad was brand new and I used it for half a hood taking a break every 10 mins or so. Speed 4-5 with the PC with light pressure.

I went to rinse the pad out with plain cold water while agitating the microfiber lightly with a brush and the pad delaminated. I am starting to have doubts about MF pads. Think I might just stick to foam..

usually the de-laminating is caused by a few things.
When removing the MF pad you need to use caution and not just rip it off. You have to separate the pad from the BP slowly.
I use a plastic detailing stick to help separate the two.
Another factor is heat from working the pad to much will destroy any pad, MF or Foam.
Another cause is how you wash them. Certain soaps and techniques will aid in the separation along with the other factors.

I've had all of the MF pads including test pads, the first generation pads and so on. I've mostly had minor separation at the edge, but thats to be expected.
But my pad haven't completely separated untill they were well used and at the end of there life.

Don't give up on these pads. They are a game changer and have upped production of higher quality details from detailers around the world.

Here's a pic of my detailing stick in action
